ok well i am in a little of a panic ATM i bought a brand new card for my third gaming pc. also known as my '' friend pc 2 '' and for some reason the card that i upgraded from has btter fps.

I HAD XFX 5770 eye infinity running 1 monitor at 1920-1080 on games it ran fine. 110 FPS

but i decided to buy a new card for that pc. as my other pcs. have better cards. i now have. for that pc

MSI 7870 hawk ghz edtion 2GB card. and it has WAY lower performance that the 5770 that i had. did i not set it up right or is there something that could be causeing this? both were ran on the EXACT same monitor. but there is a lack of FPS.

the 7870 that i have runs in between 70-100 FPS i am dumb founded. and i could not seem to pinpoint the problem. if there is something that will be causeing this card to perform worse then my 5770. then i would love to know about it ASAP

HERE ARE MY SETTINGS I USED GPU-Z

This is key information. Cards that are defective respond exactly like this. I had my CPU from Intel I ran with no power increase overclocked to 4.2Ghz for a while (an i7-3770k). Soon it became unstable. i dropped to 4Ghz, a few weeks later that was unstable. Soon it was unstable at 3.9Ghz, and 3.7Ghz. The chip was defective.

Your GPU is doing this exact same thing.
Uninstall the driver and get CCleaner and make sure all the AMD related files are removed related to the graphics card. Something may not have uinstalled right and are causing the problem.

Also, what is the rest of the system hardware? Could be a heat issue or power issue.

The rest of the set up is as followed.

6 core FX 6100 clocked to 3.5 GHZ

8gb of g skill ripjaws

asus dvd burner

corsair h60 hydro series cpu cooler

msi970a g46 mobo

nzxt gurdian 921

thermaltake tr2 700 watt power supply

and I run max settings on league of legends.

With my 7870 I run max on arma 3

dayz

with my 5770 I was running low on those games. but was still playable.

uncapped from rate. v sync disabled.

I ORDERD THE FX 8350 8 CORE

ANTEC TWELVE HUNDRED CASE

1000 WATT PSU

AND THE Asus M5A97 R2.0 AMD 970 ATX MB

for my main pc.

No everything seems fine then. You should test at the same settings.

The 7870 is getting 70-100FPS at maxed settings, compared to the 5770 at low settings getting 110. Chances are the only reason you occasionally drop to 70 FPS is CPU intense sections, overclocking the CPU and seeing if the low increases a little will help show if this is true or not.

Regardless its cause settings, what you are seeing is normal. Run the 7870 on the same settings as the 5770 and you will be seeing 200+ probably

If you are playing at the same settings exactly on that game, then no that shouldn't ever happen. If you are playing with the 5770 on medium, and the 7870 on maxed settings then yes this is normal the FPS might drop at times below the 5770 cause you are throwing a ton of extra work at it.

When I first installed the 7870 I was maxing out at 457 fps maxed settings on league. and it dropped week by week. now its getting to the point to where the card wasn't even worth the 300+ dollars I spent on it

yes then this is weird. Your PSU and all other settings should be running it fine. Maybe double check the power is pushed in good on the cards, maybe one is loose so its limiting the card?

Also check the temps. The 7870 doesn't really get all that hot but maybe there is something wrong making it over heat.

If that fails, I would be forced to think the card is bad. Try doing a clean driver wipe like I mentioned earlier, but if these don't do it its likely something is wrong with the card.

something has bin happening with this card over the course of 3 weeks. With no changes of what I do.. The 5770 is a 128bit 1GB card

my msi 7870 is a 2gb 256 bit GHZ edition twin frozr

and the 5770 is competing with it in fps. I'm just confused as to why.

Yes call them, but you really need to hunt down the receipt and proof of purchase. That is usually how they know how long the warranty is good for is by looking at purchase date, unless you registered the product after purchase.

They might go ahead and do it either way, but I haven't had to contact them before. Not sure how good they are. Kinda not the point, but just saying for future reference Sapphire's customer service is really amazing and they normally have great prices and coolers. I am pretty strict to buying only their graphics cards at the moment.

I currently have 2 sapphire 6850s and also have an msi motherboard. I've got 2 of them. I'm hoping. they will just swapp the cards. With no problem.. I love my msi products. They run awsome. I was quite impressed when I first got my 7870 but it just started to fall down. The more I used it..... If I got to buy a new gpu then I will. Just sad seeing such a good card start biting the bucket.

Yea I'm not trying to say MSi is bad, I have an MSI motherboard in my friends computer I built for her, and in my dad's computer I built for him and I believe a lot of their products are really high class and work excellent. So don't miss understand me, just all Sapphire really does is make the AMD graphics cards and so I feel they just excel at it a little better because they don't really have a whole string of other products like motherboards (which are rare from Sapphire) or other things to focus on.

I have a Sapphire 7850, overclocked to about the performance of a 7870 and it does run awesome on me. I'm sure once you get it fixed it will again for you for a long time. This is actually my 2nd I bought two and gave one to my brother cause it just works that good. Hopefully they will just up and trade it easy with no questions asked. Good luck.
