[SOLVED] Confusing TV refresh rate at 4k

So I have a 50in 4k TV and a 27in 1440p monitor connected to a Dell optiplex 3040 running Windows 10 ( I am using it to stream games from my gaming PC)
I am able to run the monitor at 60hz 1440p but when I use the TV at anything above 1080p I only get 30hz, now its important to know that my fire TV cube will run at 4k 60hz on the same TV. What am I doing wrong.

From a quick Google it looks like the HDMI on the Optiplex 3040 is version 1.4 which caps out at 30Hz at 4K.

I was wondering about that but I can run 1440p 60hz on my monitor but not on the TV, is there a reason for that

I've had this on an old lenovo minpc, solved by using the display port out with a dp to hdmi adapter.

Worked fine after that.

If the dell has a display port it would be the best option.

Good question, I can set it to that res and it works but only 1080p gives me 60hz anything above that will only run 30hz

You will need to check the instructions for the TV
