[SOLVED] Connect a 144hz to my laptop

Hello I'm trying to figure out if I can run a 144Hz monitor with my laptop. My specs are :
ASUS ROG GL502VM
CPU: i7-7700HQ Quad-Core, 2.8 GHz with Turbo up to 3.8 GHz
RAM: 16GB (8GB onboard + 8GB) DDR4 2133MHz SDRAM
Ecrã: 15.6″, FHD 1920 x 1080
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5

Interface:
1 x HDMI
1 x mini Display Port

I think I have my monitor with Gsync does that cause any problem? Or does it mean I ahve to get a Gsync compatible monitor

You'll have 144Hz & Gsync support over mini Displayport. But external monitor has to have Gsync or Freesync to experience the feature externally.

Mini Displayport has same functionality as normal Displayport so an adapter cable is fine.

Does this adapter cable work? It says miniDisplayport v1.
And which DisplayPort cable would you recommend?

The laptop/Gtx 1060 should be Displayport v1.4. DP is backwards compatible so it'll work fully with DP 1.2 monitors.

Accell or Startech mini DP to DP will do.

Haha that's ok. That cable is only limited to 1920/1200 @ 60Hz, definitely not what you want.

The brands i mentioned have appropriate cables. Another brand is Club3D.

Thank you! I will try to find it here in Portugal because over seas mail is going to stop due to Covid measures.
In the meanwhile I'll just use the HDMI until I get the adapter.

Yep that'll work. When you get around to finding an adapter to use DP properly, enable Freesync in the monitor menu and Gsync should be available to you in NvidiaCP.

Just to say my monitor arrived today and with the cable I have the 144hz!

Just something I noticed is that in-game sometimes the screen goers black for a second and then goes back to normal. This can be maybe for the lack of hardware on my laptop?

And videos on youtube stutter from time to time

Does it flicker on desktop too? Or just in game?

Can you enable Gsync in NvidiaCP after enabling Freesync in the monitor osd menu?

Only in-game. I have freeSync enabled and apparently when I disable it the problem stops.

Hmm ok, seems it's a compatibility issue between Gsync and Freesync. Some monitors aren't fully compatible. Might want to look into your specific monitor and people who run Gsync on it and see what you get.

Try lower the Hz a bit too, see what you get if set at 120Hz.

Try a different GeForce driver as well, maybe latest or a little older.

120Hz also has the black screens :/ seems to be indeed a compatibility issue with freesync, nonetheless it works fine without freesync enabled

Should still be decent without Gsync. Keep on eye on driver updates in future and hopefully one day it resolves itself.
