Scenario: Wireless is not an option in my office for various reasons that would be a whole 'nother conversation. I have 6 computers and one printer networked through a D-Link Router. I have a Scanner that I would like to add onto my network. The scanner doesn't have the WIRED capability (meaning no Ethernet port, only wireless and USB).
I'm trying to achieve this: my employees need to copy certain items from customers. I would like them to be able to walk to the scanner, select "Scan to Network, then their Workstation ID. In theory, the scanner should scan the documents and route the scan (as pdf file) back to their PC. From there, the documents can be saved or printed from my laser printer.
How can I make this happen with my current equipment? Can the USB scanner be added to the USB Port of my D-Link router? I tried this and it doesn't seem to be working. Or, do I need (or does it exist) some sort of an adapter for the USB to Ethernet connection.
If it makes a difference, the scanner is a All-In-One, Lexmark Interpret S405.
