Connecting extra fans together

I am going to add in two fans into my case. One is going to be above to fan down the motherboard, and the other will be on the side as a exhaust (I actually have a third in the rear as a exhaust as well if this information is important). One fan only has a molex plugs, both male and female. The other has a the molex plugs as well and a 4-pin connecter to the motherboard.

What I want to do is to be able to control the fan speeds on both fans and I was wondering if it would work if both fans were connected together from the molex plugs.

Probably not, but MAYBE. The fan that has both a Molex and a 4-pin fan connector MIGHT be a PWM 4-pin fan. If that is the case, normally you would connect it to a mobo header that does use PWM Mode for control. But that means the signal used there can NOT control the other fan that has only a Molex connector.

Now, IF your mobo header can be set to use the older Voltage Control Mode (or, maybe already does that), such a system CAN control the first fan. But that also could be relayed to the second fan when you connect the Molex of the first to the two-headed Molex connector of the second. Just do NOT connect either of them to a PSU's Molex output.

There is a limit to how much load a mobo fan header can provide. To check the details...
