Conroe gets busted.....oops

Yup I have 4 intel procs and 8 amds. Im not particualry a fan of anyone.

It's interesting to me how a thread like this sparks some emotions and gets 5 pages in less than a hour.

You're right. It's because Intel fanboys, AMD fanboys (intelligent ones),
all none fanboys. Hate Shariboo!!!!

Its a sunday. This thread is providing me with a valuable reason to procrastinate and avoid going out to the garage to start some welding I have to do

yes i should be at my shop finishing up on some cars.
but i dont feel like swapping tramissions today.

Yes I believe you about the blog.

But I do wonder what would be the performance of an Athlon64 with 4 mb L2 cache and same frequency as conroe. I believe the performance gap wouldn't be that great. But then again conroe can clock far more than athlon can. The thing is AMD is like 10x times smaller than Intel and has a bigger manufacturing process and cant really aford so much cache on a die.

Im just furious that they have started the multicore era just now and not much sooner.

Yes, it would be curious to see how a similarly clocked and cached AM2 does against Conroe. But such a chip DOES NOT EXIST, making that argument irrelevant. I guarantee all non-fanboys on the Forumz (nearly everyone on this thread and countless others as well) would flock to AMD and sing its praises if they conceived a chip to smash Conroe, and you can quote me on that.

4x4 remains to be seen, personally I hope it does very well, keeping the performance war raging.

The FX-62 has 2MB of L2 cache, IMC, and is clock higher than the E6400, and the E6400 equals or beats it, especially if overclocked close to the FX-62 speed (Anandtech charts) That's two CPUs with the same amount of L2 cache, no 4MB of L2 in the E6400. So, I really don't see how having 4MB of L2 cache will help the A64, when it's flagship CPU doesn't beat the top mid-range C2D CPU.

Im just furious that they have started the multicore era just now and not much sooner.

Why? Are you going to feel that way when the next technology rolls out? Creating these new architectures and technology takes time. I for one am happy, since it has cut my encoding/rendering times down a lot.

Tough to get motivated to work on Sundays, isnt it?

As for me, I have calculus homework staring at me (@#$% derivatives  ).

I've got this game I have to finish encoding.... 😳

well dont be,what are you doing to change it?got a solution to revolutionize it?why get wound up?or is it that your flaw is that you get upset abot every little thing?

its only tech, its not the end of the world.relax ,man;or make a better chip, getting all wound up does nothing.but shortens your life.

What's more, Intel released the original Pentium D on May 26, 2005. The first Athlon X2s shipped on June 1, 2005. Intel certainly can't be blamed for not entering the multicore era sooner, when they were the first ones anyway. 😀

what are you welding?

A36 steel 1/2' sq .065 wall tube. A new frame/mobo mount for my enclosure. Mod E. The project is nearly done and ready for marketing. Sadly, theres really not a market for what Ive spent a year of my free time creating.

you doing wire or stick?
i like welding,as a hobby;id hate to do it as a job.i only learned how so that if id wanted it for artistic purposes id have it.i am almost good enough to certify after a couple months total over a few years of actual welding.
upside down is a pain,i do great verticles and horizontal.and i can fake a decent upside down.
I've only welded stick, and it's a pain in the ass. You have to strike it like a match to get the arc going, plus if the sticks get wet they're ruined. I once left a fifty pack out in the rain 😳 . My dad has wanted a wire feed for a while, he just doesn't weld enough to justify it.

Wire. Cant make as heavy a weld as fast as stick (for the same equipment price) but much more forgiving and versitile. Welding is a great skill to have, artistically or otherwise, but weding inverted can be a real pain.

Any pix of your art?

Ironically, I'm using this thread to help me procrastinate while I have homework to do for a performance evaluation course. :?

Really. Do you refresh every 2 min or so to see if new posts are up?

Yeah, well actually gmail lets me know everytime replys are posted... and it's happening so fast i can't get any work done

i have run a hundred or so pounds of 70/18 the thing to remember about stick is to keep it moving, and dont weld on rust unless you have to .
my technique for striking is pulling it toward me till it heats up and wont stick.then ill push it into the weld,if i pull a weld ill go slow and pool it.

Thanks for the tip. By the way:
