Question constant hard drive activity when pc is idle

my hard drive activity light is solid on when pc is at idle. when I move the mouse the activity stops. anyone know what is causing this. my drives are a Samsung 850 evo 500gb ssd drive, second drive is a wd blue 7200rpm 1tb hard drive.

You can use Task Manager, Performance Monitor, and Resource Monitor to discover what app, process, or service is using the hard drive.

Just open the window, drag to the side. Wait and watch for some time until "idle". Look at what is running or happening.

Then move the mouse to see what changes.

ya I figured it out. it was trying to run a defrag of my drive.

Hopefully not on the SSD....

You should disable any auto-defragging actions.

it was the ssd, and I did disable the feature.
