Hey guys, I'm really confused as to why I get really inconsistent fps in many games and I'm trying to find a fix.
My specs:
1080sli
i7-7700k (oc 4.9ghz)
16gb ddr4 3000mhz
corsair 850
1440p 144hz monitor
MOBO ASRock z97 extreme6
In many games I find that my gpu and cpu hover around 50% usage with stable temps and low fps. I should be able to maintain at least 144fps in most games, according to most benchmark sites. I was wondering if anyone knew why this happens? If my pc would just utilize more of my hardware I feel like I'd get better fps. Is this a cpu bottleneck? I highly doubt it as this is a fairly modern cpu and shouldn't need upgrading. is it my gpus? I know that a lot of modern fps games aren't optimized for sli, like BFV that has it disabled by default, but using the workaround I still find my gpu's aren't being fully utilized. Some games run fine, like FFXIV but others like BFV don't (although I know BFV has some general optimization issues) but I just finished a session of ARK where I couldn't stay above 60fps and my usage was below 50% the whole time. I used to play ARK max settings no problem at 100+ fps but recently I've just been noticing my PC not performing like it used to in many games.
DO I need to upgrade if so what do I need? I've debated selling my 1080's for a 2080 or maybe a 2080ti (but it's a lil too expensive). But many benchmarks still say that 1080sli gets better performance than a 2080, but those benchmarks are way faster than anything I can obtain (200 in BFV and I can only average about 100 for example: https://www.game-debate.com/gpu/ind...pare=geforce-rtx-2080-vs-geforce-gtx-1080-sli ).
I don't know whats up. Is this a software thing or a hardware thing? I've done multiple clean installs of windows (tend to do one every 8-9 months to keep things clean) but each time it just feels like nothing improves, or gets worse.
In fact, now that I think about it, I first started noticing this after swapping from my 4k 60hz monitor to a 1440p 144hz one. Well, technically it's a 1080p 144hz monitor that I have scaled to 1440p with DSR. It's an ASUS one and it handles the higher resolution at 144hz just fine but I have tried going back to the base 1080p but I actually get worse performance. When I first got my monitor I immediately set up the DSR (I factored this into my purchase, buy a cheaper monitor that was capable of being OC'd to 1440) and everything was bliss but the past few months I've been really unsatisfied with my performance. Is there an issue with sli and 144hz/DSR?
Also another thing. My ram sits at 30% even while idle, I don't know if that matters but I figured I'd give you all the info I have possible.
If anyone has any help/suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it.
