I have a normal DELL usb keyboard, and as part of a setup I am making with my Mac, I want to convert it to a USB-C keyboard. Currently I have found an old USB 3.0 - USB-C 3.0 cable and chopped it in half, then I have wired the red to red, green to green, white to white and black to black. This however doesn't work when I connect it to my PC. When I use the cable like normal just wiring only those four colours, (the others are still disconnected) and connect it with the USB A side to my computer and the USB-C to my kindle, it works and I can access it's files which leads me to believe there may be something with data transfer using different cables for different ways, which makes no sense... Anyone got any ideas?

You could try a commercial adapter like one of these:

Trying to do it without the use of something extra to buy. Anyone have ideas on what the actual problem is?
