well if you want to answer a question that really matters. how hot is
to hot for a 5700 ultra core temp?

I don't think Nvidia has ever posted maximum core temps for their cards. .
At idle I would think anything over 50C would be getting on the hot side.
Anything under 60C at load should be OK. Anything over 60C and the card might
not last long and might not be very stable.

thanks im trying to play it safe. i only have it set to 484 and 914 for
the memory. it's at 42 C right now and i can notice a little better
playing in call of duty.

well if i want to oc even more what cooling solutions do you suggest. I
dont have an exaust fan, will that help? Or i found this thing from
antec that blows air out of one of the pci slots. I'm on a limited
budget so the cheapest, best solution would be the most helpful.

The first thing would be to have a low case temp. This is the air that feeds
the fan on the video card.
A side fan positioned right over the video card helps a lot because it is
always giving the video card cooler air from outside the case.
That exhaust fan that you mentioned might help a little bit, but not much from
posts I have read. You could get a better cooler for the card which would help
more then the exhaust fan I think, but I don't what is a good cooler for your
card. You'd have to search on that.
I still think the starting point should be getting cooler air near the AGP
slot. Another thing that might help is to replace the thermal compound on the
card with Arctic Silver 5. Then maybe a new cooler for the card.
To be honest I have done quite a bit of overclocking on video cards. Sometimes
you just don't gain all that much with a new cooler compared to the stock
cooler. When it hits it's limit you just won't get much more unless you do some
really extreme modding.

thanks a bunch umm i have aspire x gear case i think it is and there
really are no fans slots below the agp slot only fan that is blowing on
the cpu and one that is blowing air out of the top. the only other 2
exaust fan slots. What do you think. and my card already has thermal
grease i just dont know what kind. i mean im not looking to overclcok
the hell out of it, i just want better performance in CoD with higher
setting. (like max everything) so i dont know what i should do. any help
is greatly appreciated.

do you think that this will lower my gpu temp so i can oc it even more.

From everything I have read it doesn't help very much. I didn't realize you
have a case with a lot of fans.
You need to post what your case temp is, the temp outside the case and the
video card temp.
The thermal compound on retail or OEM cards is not as good as Arctic Silver 5.
Just changing the compound might lower your temp more then a few C's. You can
get a tube for around $5.00.
I searched for your case does it have a clear window side? If so it would be
very easy to put a side fan over the AGP slot which would help a lot.

so you're saying that i should drill a hole in the plexiglass and put a
fan in there. I never though about that if that's what you mean i think
i'll try that this week. I mean it's like at 50 c after i play call of
duty no overclocking.

Thats exactly what I mean. Cut a nice round hole and attach an 80mm (good) or
120mm (Better) fan right to the side facing the video card. Have the center of
the fan lined up with the center of the video card or slightly more towards the
rear of the case. Not much more just an inch or so off center from the card.
If you have a way to cut the hole then this would probably be one of the
cheapest things to help out the card. You only need to get a an under $10 fan.
You can never have enough cooling for the video card.
Look at like this. Even if you put on a new cooler on the card it is still
using warm air to do it's job.

you have been so helpful thanks so very much.
