Why do i feel like the new core i7 comming soon is a e8600 duo core times 2, but upgraded a bit more, and to be called i7 975?? anyone else think the same thing or am i talkin out my ass?

It's a complete redesign of the core. It's nothing like an E8600 times two. That was actually the whole point of the Nehalem architecture (i7/Xeon 5500) - it was the first brand new design since the Core 2 series came out.

On the other hand, the Q9650 is very much like the E8400 times two. In fact, it really is just 2 E8400 dies put together.

There is many differences first you need to google memory bandwidth. The mem controller on the cpu die increases by a factor of 3.

there are other things too..... but mem bandwidth:

core 2 max is 10k with ddr3

i7 min with cheapr ram and triple sticks is 22k

average i7 25-30k

i7 max memory bandwidth at 1.65v or lower 33-35k

this is just one aspect but an important one!
