so, i've head that the i5 series aren't really 4 cores, just 2 cores with hyper-threading. is this true? and if so would it be worth upgrading to something with more cores like a 8350,
This is the case with mobile i5 chips that are present in laptops etc, but in a desktop they are a true four core. The i5 will perform better that the 8350 in games. Stick with the 3470 - it's an awesome CPU and outperforms the 8350 even if it's overclocked. Dont' waste the money.
1st generation desktop i5s came in both 2 core + HT and 4 core no HT, 2nd 3rd & 4th gen all desktop models have 4 cores no HT. Mobile i5s are all 2 core + HT I think.
