I was curious to know as to what are the different directories Add
Printer wizard uses for installing the printer driver files in my
system directory ?
I tried to install HP printer drivers on Itanium and noticed that the
Add Printer wizard creates a new directory as
%systemroot%\spool\drivers\ia64\hewlett_packardhp_xxx...
and is copying the drivers files there.
Based on the earlier version of windows Add Printer wizard i expected
the files to get copied to the %systemroot%\spool\drivers\ia64\3
directory.

Can anyone let me know, if there is some requisites of putting all the
printer driver files in some specified directory.

Thanks,
Ashish

The files are first copied to the ManufactureHardwareID directory before
coping to the \%platform%\3 directory. The ManufactureHardwareID is
retained for reinstalling the driver.

Thanks Alan for the answer,
but then another question, when the drivers can anyway be reinstalled
through driver.can residing in the system, why need another one ?

Thanks,
