Hello everyone,

I am quite stuck dealing with the installation of my new Gigabyte X58A-OC using my HX850W PSU in an Obsidian 800D case.

Here is the problem:
The 12V 8pin for the CPU power is abit too short to reach the connector on the motherboard (my previous X58-UD5 was just at the right distance). There is a cable that looks like an extention cable for 8pin connection of the same colour (yellow) as the initial 8pin 12V cable. Is it safe to use this to extend the original 8pin 12V cable? (as it has an extra 4pin connector attached to it). The other 8pin cables are blue or black, listed for PCI-E or other connectivity.

My other issue is: The X58A-OC has 2x 12V connections for the CPU power, can I use those blue or black 8pins to connect the power supply to the ATX_12V_x2 slot for CPU power? Also, the PSU's first 12V 8pin cable comes from inside the PSU itself, its not modular, so would it be safe to use the modular connectors (blue and black coloured plugs on the PSU) for this job?

Anyone who has experience with this kind of connections, could you answer please as I do not have to courage to experiment and risk burning my machine ^^ (I couldn;t find a detailed description of such an issue in the corsair's hx850w manual, neither in the last threads of this forum.)

Thank you,
Thomas.

Yes you can use the 8 pin Yellow 12V cable for CPU power
Yes you can use the 12V Blue and Black... It is for PCIE/ Graphics card but its the same 12V rail

Another option: Purchase an extension cable:

The none modular 12V that comes out directly from the PSU can be used for CPU power. If it is short you can purchase an extension. That's what i did w/ MY HX1000 Corsair PSU

The Blue and Black cable is for PCIE. If do not pin on the motherboard... Buy an extension cord for the 12V that match the connector from the PSU.

The PSU is a single rail supply so it is safe. All 12V load is powered by the same rail
