CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 Liquid CPU Cooler for i5 6600k ?

Good day fellow members,

I have a dilemma, i have recently purchased an I5 6600k cpu and as it does not include a cpu cooler.
Thus i find myself here seeking advise , its my first build and due to me spending half my budget on the cpu alone , im trying to find the best possible solution for my build / budget.

I want a cooler that will perform well with this chosen cpu as well as be silent .

My budget is $80 which is the cost in my country for the H60.
the mobo for the build will be a msi H110m gaming ( will upgrade later on )
Another comparison to the H60 would be the DeepCool MAELSTROM 120 ( would this be as good or better?)

If you want quiet at that budget, you're better off with an air cooler such as the hyper 212 evo (provided it will fit in your case). Closed-loop coolers like the H60 actually run louder, while the cooling performance is about the same.

My apologies for my late response as work gets hectic etc..

Anyway I have checked my local stores etc but they all only offer the 212x (which is different from the 212 evo correct? )

What about the DeepCool MAELSTROM 120, CPU Water Cooling ? would it be any good?

However In all my research i have found that there is a 50/50 of people stating the H60 is silent and good whereas others state its loud.

Forgive me for my silly inquiries , its just that i am a noob to all this, and just want my pc running well and getting value for my money.

My statement about closed-loop coolers was a general one, rather than specifically about the H60. I suggest you look for some professional reviews that actually measure the noise produced by the H60 (or the DeepCool Maelstrom) and compare it to some common air coolers. I presume you've already made sure it will fit in your case, which you haven't specified. Some cases are better at blocking noise from the fans inside, and depending on how far it will be from you, and if the furniture will provide extra barriers, that could affect how much of a problem the noise will be.

P.S. I wasn't familiar with it when I first replied to your message, but there's a different air cooler that has quickly become more popular than the Hyper 212 Evo as the default recommendation due to its better case and memory compatibility: the Cryorig H7. (the Hyper 212x has some enhancements to the airflow compared to the evo model, but is 158mm high, which is too tall for some cases, and presumably still overhangs the memory area, interfering if the ram has tall heatspreaders)

AIO water coolers with a single radiator aren't worth the money. You should only buy one if you're restricted on space.

An air cooler will offer similar performance at a significantly reduced cost and the 212X (which is the replacement for the 212 EVO) is a fine choice.

If you can fit any of the $50-$80 air coolers in your case and over your RAM they will be a better solution. They cool better than 120 WC AIO units. If you are not OCing than a 212 or similar $20 air cooler would be more than enough.

I am currently looking at purchasing the 212x but am trying to get its dimensions although i now worry about that ram slot space.

Strangely, BitFenix doesn't seem to list the cpu cooler clearance. However, given how little horizontal space there is between the rear 120mm fan, the cutout for the motherboards rear ports, and the side panel, I'm guessing the Hyper 212x would not fit in that case, and you might have trouble fitting a closed-loop cooler like the Corsair H60 in that case as well. Unfortunately, the Cryorig coolers aren't listed at Rebel Tech.

The Cooler Master Hyper D92 is 145mm high, so it should fit, but it might not be as quiet or as effective as you'd like.

In case you have trouble getting the Cryorig, here are a few case suggestions:
1. the case model I'm currently using, the Corsair 200R (165mm cpu cooler clearance), though I see it's rather expensive at Rebel Tech.
[strike]2. Raidmax Vortex V4 (though Raidmax psus have a bad reputation, so I don't know whether to trust their cases, but this model has 160mm cpu cooler clearance according to specs, and it's only a little more expensive than the BitFenix Comrade)[/strike]
3. BitFenix Nova (also 160mm cpu coolear clearance, and actually listed in specs, unlike the Comrade and Neos models)

How do you guys find out the cpu cooler clearance measurements for cases? most do not state .

The manufacturer sites often list the cpu cooler clearances in the tech specs.

In the Spec 02 and 03 , sometimes it fits thw 212 series , sometimes it slightly touches , side panel \ window , have come across both scenarios.​

Okay, given the beveled edges around the side window of that case, I can believe that. Different motherboards may slightly change where the heatpipe ends meet the case side. I remember once finding that the backplate cutout of an ATX case didn't line up well enough with the cpu position of a micro atx motherboard for me to actually install the backplate with the motherboard still in.

Evening Gents,

I received an offer on a cooler master v6 GT cpu cooler @ $50 , its used / three years old, but friend states its in good condition and i trust his word.

But would appreciate your perspective whether or not it may be a good buy at such a price for my build and compatibility wise. and would i still get some good years out off it you think ?

He has a i5-4960k and stated that it ran smooth and very quiet.. my main concern for my cpu cooler would be its noise level.

Please advise....& thank you in advance.

165mm high, so given that the 212 series only sometimes fits the Spec-02 and Spec-03 cases, I'm pretty sure it will be too big.

Also, noise levels don't look very good for that cooler, looking at a couple of reviews:

As far as price, that TweakTown review said the MSRP was $69.99 when it came out, so $50 seems a bit high for a 3yo used model.
