Hi Everyone,

I have a question about a Corsair TX750W Power Supply that I just bought and I have been unable to find the answer for online and was hoping someone could help me out.

The TX650W/TX750W has an 8-pin +12V; also known as "EPS12V" cable. It says that if my motherboard has an 8-pin +12V socket, to connect the 8-pin cable directly to my motherboard. It says that if my motherboard has a 4-pin socket, detach the 4-pin from the 8-pin cable and then plug the correct 4-pin directly to my motherboard.

My motherboard is an MSI P55-GD65 and has the 4-pin socket. When I detach the 8-pin connector, I have two 4-pin connectors. How do I know which one is the correct one to use? I have unable to find a pin out for the 8-pin and 4-pin cables/sockets.

Could someone please help me on this?

Thanks!

Guys - That is only partially correct.

Here's is a link with detailed close-up photos of two different 4 pin power cables that will fit a standard 4 pin connection on a motherboard:

In the photo the connector on the left is the correct one that matches the connector on a motherboard. The connector on the right is not correct but still fits the motherboard and works just fine. The pinout is the same for both. If you read the paragraph you'll learn that a round peg can fit in a square hole.
Look at the shape of the each individual connector, there is only one way that you can attach it. For example 1 of those 4 pin connectors will have, 1 square, 1 half square/ushape, and so so. They are designed in such a way that there is 1 possible way to connect so look at the motherboard and match it with the pins.

hopefully that solves it for you

Solution
Thanks for the info!

I wasn't sure if the pinouts were the same for both 4-pin connectors and did not want to just assume that they were before plugging it in to my motherboard.
