Could my overclock be causing my lag in games?

I recently overclocked my cpu and started experiencing extreme lag. However, it dissapeared after a while and doesn't return much. However, sometimes it comes back. I would like to add that I have notoriously bad internet and lag consistently, but usually never this bad. The lag has since gone away and has not returned. Although it hasn't come back (its been about 1 hour of steady use) ,could this be an effect of my overclock?

Also, my system is not overheating even under stress, it never goes above 50C

i5 4690k @4.4ghz

gtx 970

Msi z97gaming 5

Does the issue crop up with online gaming? If so then the issue can be attributed to your dodgy internet. If it's while you're on your system, idling then it's probable the PSU is having an issue with power delivery in certain aspects.
