Hi all,

I ran into a slight problem. I am the owner of a Lenovo Y700 gaming desktop which i have purchased about 2 and a half years ago. Recently, i disassembled the PC to re-apply the thermal paste. I have done so successfully; however, now whenever i turn my computer on and the BIOS screen appears, there are 2 short beeps and a message appears saying "CPU 2 FAN FAILURE". For reference, i have an American Megatrends BIOS. If i press F2 to continue, the computer boots up normally and its as if nothing ever happened. Despite the fact that it says that the CPU fan failed on every boot up, it is still running, and my temps stay at 30 - 40 degrees idle. Also, i don't know why it says CPU 2 fan - i have a single CPU motherboard. It would be great to know what is causing this problem, and any solutions which i can apply in order to fix this problem.

Thank you for your contributions!

newer mb now have more then one fan header. some have cpu_fan aux. if your cpu fan is on the system fan or aux header it have power but the mb will toss that error code at power up. the other two errors would be the cable that sends fan info from the fan to the mb went bad. or you missed a pin putting the cpu cooler plug back on.
