Hello,

My name is Hunter and I just turned 15 not to long ago, I've always been into computers and programming. I have a great gaming computer, but I would like to upgrade my CPU. Here are my CURRENT specs:

CPU: AMD-FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core Processor
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 750 Twin Frozr
RAM: 8 GB
Motherboard/Mainboard: MSI 760GM-P34(FX)
BIOS: V17.18B3 DATE - 03/13/2014 BRAND: American Megatrends Inc.

I'm trying to upgrade my CPU (AMD-FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core Processor) to a AMD FX-8350 4 GHz Processor, I'll give the link to the processor. My current processor has 4 cores and this one has 8 cores. Not sure if that takes up more power, therefore needing a new power supply. I'm also not sure if I need to update the BIOS. I bought this machine back in 2014 so I'm suspecting that I don't need an upgrade. I'm excited about getting this CPU and hoping it's going to work. I've heard it's the best AMD processor. If only I could get the i7-4790k... Eh, this one should do better.

If this processor doesn't need a BIOS upgrade, can I just plop it in there and it'd be fine? I'm also thinking about getting a new heat-sink for it.

Please help, thanks!

Best regards,

Hunter.

If you put an FX-8350 CPU in that motherboard, I guarantee that you will have problems. You're gonna have to stick with an FX-8320E or FX-8370E. Note the "E". Going for the non-E version will fry your motherboard.

Why do you want to upgrade? If it's for gaming, don't bother. You won't get any significant performance boost until DX12 becomes mainstream. If it's for something else you can go ahead and upgrade.

One more thing, if I were to install a EVGA GTX 970 or MSI GTX 970, would that be okay for my power supply and my computer in general. I assume so because one, I have a good GPU already, and two this has the lowest voltage (EVGA).
