Question CPU and RAM question for new gaming build

How does the newer Ryzen 7 7800X3D compare to the older Ryzen 7 9800X3D. From doing some recent reading it sounds like the 9800X3D is a beast of CPU for gaming which is the main purpose of this new build. Also what RAM speed should I get? I've been out of the loop for a while. Last I remember early Ryzen CPU's needed faster RAM speeds to make the most of the architecture. Is this still the case?

There is no 9700X3D. There IS a 7900X3D, but IT is the "older CPU", not the 9800X3D. If you want the top gaming CPU, then that is the one to buy. There is nothing right now that beats it overall in gaming performance.

As for the memory, ALL platforms tend to perform better with faster memory if it is supported. It just makes a little more difference on AMD than it does on Intel platforms. DDR5 6400MT/s seems to be the sweet spot for the 9800X3d. If you can get a kit with lower latency, even better.

The 9800X3D has about 18% better single core performance than the 7800X3D and about 16% better multicore performance. But that's in primarily standard type processes and benchmarks.

For gaming performance, depending on the game it can have anywhere from 5-20% faster performance while most reviews show around an 11% average advantage including this review with a 30 game comparison.
