Hi All,
Looking to build a new gaming rig but it's been a while so i've been educating myself on the current tech landscape. I've always been an Intel guy due to issues i've had with AMD builds many years ago so initially i was looking at something like a 14700k. I understand there's a lot of hate for Intel right now due to stability and longevity problems with the 13/14 series and the reviews aren't great for the new Core Ultra cpus for gaming purposes. That got me looking at Ryzen for the first time in decades and they seem pretty popular right now, specifically the x3d versions of cpus such as the 7800x3d and newer 9800x3d. Problem is they are no where to be found in my area and the few i have seen are going for a couple hundred dollars over MSRP. Gaming mainly at 1440p on a rtx 2080 right now but plan to upgrade to a 50 series card eventually. I'd be happy to hear any buying advice anyone is willing to offer. Also don't really have a budget, but would be happy to save anywhere i can as i'm sure the 50 series of gpus will be stupidly expensive.

A new system is far more than just the CPU.

Totally understand that but my main inquiry is regarding CPUs so i thought the CPU forum was a good place to start.

Leaving aside the cost........if gaming is your priority, it looks like you need to go with AMD.

Even if you decide the Intel talk is over-blown, you still need to go with AMD...if gaming remains your priority.

You're left with decisions surrounding:

Importance of budget.

Importance of non-gaming aspects.

Your ability to separate wheat from chaff among anonymous Internet opinions.

Strength of your previous loyalty to Intel.

How prone you are to buyer's remorse. Maybe you would easily regret any decision.

All of those points are highly personal. We don't know what will ultimately influence you or the details of how you make decisions.

General advice: satisfy yourself alone and don't look back.
