As the question says , i'm getting the i7-8700 from the coffee lake line up...i know its not overclock able , so it might not run up too hot ....but i want it to hit its 4.3GHZ comfortable without any throttling issues. i can afford the corsair H60.

Solution

Thats not true, thats said by people who want to justify buying a $50 cooler when they don't need it. It...

It could, at idle the CPU isn't doing much.

Aside from if all your wiring were blocking the fans your case should have good airflow (in fact it should run cooler with the case closed as the fans should push the hot air out the back efficiently).

Anyway something is clearly up, I'm sure its mounted properly but possibly the thermal paste came off a bit or got smeared out from under the fan, who knows. I've never seen the stock cooler cool that poorly.

So if you have thermal paste I would try it again, if not, then I would consider a Cryorig H7. It will look cool in that case.

You know actually those temps aren't that far off for an 8700 I forgot how hot it tends to run. That said it could still stand to be cooler with the stock cooler. Its worth a shot to re mount and see what happens.

Most do not, except that really expensive liquid metal stuff. Most are a minimal difference.

Good article though, It reminded me how hot the 8700 runs stock in relation to prior intel cpus.

It certainly is toasty judging from that!

Is intel going backwards? or they trying for performance per watt as opposed to performance per degree? :)

I would be gutted if I got an 8th Gen cpu and it ran hotter than a 4th gen I7 4790K!!

I found an intersting article. https://www.howtogeek.com/320705/how-much-better-are-aftermarket-cpu-coolers-than-intels-stock-coolers/

PS: I did not change the paste yet. I will later this day.

Hmm.. I do not know which one to get:
-Cryorig H7
-SilentiumPC Fortis 3
-Cooler Master Hyper 612 v2
-Scythe Kotetsu
-other suggestions within the same price as above ?
