CPU fan - blow in or out?

Hi,
I have a new GlobalWin FOP38 sitting atop my T-bird 1.2 (Type C), and just discovered that it was packaged w/ the fan blowing in towards the HS/CPU. I'm not a physics expert, but based what little I know about conduction/convection, it seems to me that it would make better sense to arrange the fan to blow away from the HS/CPU, therebye drawing cooler ambient air over the HS fins and way from the CPU. Anybody have thoughts about this? Thanks!

Keith

I have read mixed views on this and it may just be down to what you see works best.

I'm sure some fans/hs work better as push and some as pull.

For my Swiftech I found it to be very noisy in 'suck' mode, but better in 'blow' mode.

I have not compared cooling abilities, but since I don't have a problem with heat, I wanted quieter option...

I think its better blowing air in as more heat is dissapated from the base of the heatsink. When Blowing air out, that area does not get as much air.

Try it both ways, and whichever gets you the best results use it. I expect, on the 38, you'll get best results by blowing toward the base of the heatsink. If you have poor case ventilation (or a peltier), you'll most likely get best results blowing away from the heatsink.

Hey why didn't anyone reply to my "Cooling considerations" post?? It's the same question 😉

Anyway as i see it, it SHOULD perform better sucking air IFF you have a good case cooling with a goog intake->outlet airflow

Read my post whydont'cha? :)
