CPU fan pin being used as a regular fan?

I have an Asrock H97 anniversary motherboard, brand new, just installed. I have one problem, though. the motherboard only seems to have TWO regular fan headers for my case fans, when I use FOUR. Oddly enough, the cpu fan seems to have two different headers for it to use, both being called cpufans in the manual. The only difference between the two is that one is four pin (the one I'm using for my head sinc) and the other is three pin (which would fit my case fans perfectly). Would my case fan's plug be compatible with the three pin "cpu fan"?

thanks.

Your manual (page 4) says you have:

2 x CPU Fan Connectors (1 x 4-pin, 1 x 3-pin)
• 2 x Chassis Fan Connectors (1 x 4-pin, 1 x 3-pin)
• 1 x Power Fan Connector (3-pin)

It appears that all the 4 pin headers are true PWM headers (page 21). If you have a 3 pin case fan, it should be fine plugging it into the 3 pin CPU header. If you are air cooling, you might want to plug the rear case fan in to this header as it might match the speed of the heatsink fan.
theres two things to consider here:
1. how many pins are in the case fan
2. the fact that when u use the cpu pin for case, the rpm of the case fan will be adjusted as per the temps of the cpu, if u get wat im saying

so if it does work, consider the 2nd thing as well

cheers

My case fans all have 3 pin connectors, the same as the ports on the mobo. having a fan that adjusts to the temperatures of the cpu is better than having no fan at all right?

Is it possible to buy a 3 pin fan splitter, so I could connect all 4 of my fans to the same port?
