CPU fan speed never increases.

Hey, I've been having this problem with my PC where the fan speed never goes up, and so the computer can sometimes start overheating. There is a small screen on the motherboard that is supposed to tell you the temperature, but it's always at 00 for me. I have to increase the fan speed manually in MSI Command Centre, but I want to know if there's some way to fix this. I've tried reinstalling Windows, moving the CPU fan from CPUFAN1 to CPUFAN2 and back, changing the fan curve and even resetting BIOS settings and yet nothing changed.

No, it runs at 4.2GHz (turbo boost).

How are you monitoring the fan speed and cpu temperatures and what are you using to place the cpu under load? What is the highest cpu temperature you are reading?

Speccy for CPU temperature and MSI Command Centre for fan speed. 3DMark, for example, will make the CPU overheat and crash the PC if I don't adjust the CPU fan speed manually in Command Centre. Otherwise, it runs normally. The highest CPU temperature depends, but without adjusting the fan speed in some games I can get 70-80 C, while the fan speed always stays at 35% (around 750 RPM).

I am not sure but this might be a uefi or bios issue. did you check motherboard bios version for this kind of issue from msi website.

If you install cpu-z and monitor the voltage, what are your readings?

I updated the UEFI version some time ago, and nothing has changed.

My CPU stays around 1.248 to 1.264, sometimes raising a bit higher.

Yeah you need to invest in a better cooler, preferable with a larger heatsync to better dissipate the heat. This is especially the case if you plan to overclock as that cpu cooler is definitely not going to give you the thermal head room necessary. Unless there was some sort of an installation error, where by reseating the cooler doesn't resolve the issue.

I said that if I manually increased the RPM of the CPU fan in Command Centre then everything is fine, it's just that it doesn't go faster in relation to the CPU's temperature, like it's supposed to. The CPU cooler is definately functioning fine, so it's something else.

how many pin does your cooler have. 3 or 4pin. how many pin does your motherboard cpu fan header have.

rhobariii, sorry I forgot about that. The fact that you're plugging into the cpu fan headers and you are using a pwm fan would mean both the headers and fan is a 4 pin. This might be worth a call to MSI support. Open a case with them and find out why your motherboard isn't regulating the rpm. Make sure you update your bios and test fan function before calling them.

Both are PWM, so 4 pin.
