Cpu idle at 80c

My AMD A8-5600K is running at 76c idle but all other hardware is between 28-35c. All of my fans are blowing correctly and my heatsink+fan combo is locked in tight and properly, but my heatsink is hot to the touch. Any ideas on what's going on here, is my heatsink just not dispersing heat fast enough? (As of me typing this it has spiked to a high of 117c, settling around 70 again)

What cooler do you have? Have you overclocked? How much thermal paste did you apply when you installed your cooler?

I'm using the stock heatsink and fan combo with pre-applied thermal paste. I suspected it may be a thermal paste issue and am currently ordering a tube.

Do you have cpu-fan? Did you clean it? And topluca is right, clean your cpu's thermal and re-apply it.

Make sure your cpu fan is at 1000+rpm. And that you haven't raised your CPU Vcore.

Blow out your case with compressed air to get rid of built up dust.

If you CPU doesn't idle below 40C and game below 60C then re-seat you cpu cooler (new paste). If still no good, get a better cooler.

even running stock cooler and thermal paste it doesn't seem right that it is that hot at idle. You running stock clocks and voltage?

I've never overclocked my CPU or adjusted the default fan values.

My CPU fan speed is steady around 1300 as well.

(I cleaned out my PC with compressed air yesterday)

Try getting temp and Vcore from bios. Use uefi software that came with your mobo.

After replacing my thermal paste, my idle temp has dropped to around 65c. This still seems too high. But it definitely has helped

Yep - still too high. I'd buy a better cooler.
