Question CPU Not posting after CPU upgrade

Hey All,

I recently upgraded my GPU from a 1080TI to a 3080. Prior to the upgrade, I was running a Ryzen 5 2600x which was bottlenecking the GPU, so I decided today to upgrade to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Unfortunately when i boot up the PC no longer posts. Powers up fine, but no bootup. I switched back over to the Ryzen 5 just to make sure I hadn't shorted anything, and sure enough, we've booted up with no problem. Could it be as simple as a bios update? Or is the CPU a lemon?

PSU - 850Watts
Motherboard: MSI x470 Gaming Plus
GPU: GTX 3080

Agreed. Install old cpu, get bios updates from manufacturers website and follow directions there, when you are on the latest version reinstall the new cpu.

Looks like Bios update was the issue. I’ve done the update. New issue though, now it’s bottling up but automatically entering MSI click Bios. I presume it’s not booting from the correct HDD but I can’t seem to change it anyway. Boot mode select is greyed out and stuck on UEFI

Reset the bios back to default settings since you’ve updated it and installed the new cpu and see if that helps.
