CPU not supported by BIOS

Ok recently I blew out my Xp 1600, and bought a XP 2400.

My mobo is an Asus A7V266, and it's default bios only supports up to the XP 1600. With the newest bios upgrade it supports up to the 2600, so my question is.. How can I use the 2400 to upgrade the bios if it isn't supported?

Will it even hurt anything if I just use the 2400 without changing any settings or whatever.

Can I just underclock the mobo and set the fsb to 100?

i'm a bit confused here, so your existing bios( the bios you are using now) supports only up to 1600+
and you can get a newer bios version for your mobo so that it support 2600+ (can it??).
and you want to know how can you "use your 2400 to upgrade the bios" ???

in all cases, if the newest bios for your mobo supports UP to 2600+ , then you should download that and flash it over your existing one, then simply pop in the 2400+ and you are ready to go.

Yes it will likely start as an xp 1600. You should be able to download the new bios and install it with the xp2400. If you have any problems you can set the dip switches manually till you get the new bios installed.

I'm kind of confused, but if your current bios will do the proper FSB for the 2400, then it should detect it right only without the 2400 name. For example it may say something like "AMD XP Processor at XXXX MHz" instead of AMD XP 2400+. But in any case, update the bios - it can't hurt.
