- tried the last 3 settings on as default just to if it made any difference, and non was noticed (good or bad)
After toying around with OCing on my new rig everything went fine but until I started using AMD OD it just kept slowing it down more and more with each tweak I did. My simple OC soon became unstable and even at factory defaults and cmos wipes it still hung and with no avail on memtest, HDD checks, and recently confirmed, no software problem either (I just reformatted the other night). By unstable, I mean that my CPU load will jump excessively high on the simplest things like opening the task manager and this spikes my performance and creates stutters and lagging moments on simplest tasks. The worse it is, the more Everest shows my bus speed fluctuating from moderate to extreme lows depending on CPU load.
Edit: Just about anything over uses my CPU load and just about anything can slow it down or spike the usage (even firefox)
This affects my FPS and smooth frames and things that need to be loaded stutter and delay the CPU by increasing the CPU load dramatically which makes for low and annoying FPS when playing World of Warcraft. I also use to get higher FPS pre overclocked when I put it all together.
I noticed my HT/NB have a deciding factor in this, like it's more stable at 2000 for HT and NB but if they're different numbers things tends to fluctuate more (but increasing the NB makes loading and everything noticeably faster) but the higher the NB got from HT it seemed more unstable (theory). After formatting my HDD I cleared my cmos and reinstalled Windows 7 and made no real difference other than a faster OS
Even though computer runs stable and won't crash and voltages had zero to do this the problem and my CPU temps are pretty low. I checked my PSU and it handles the voltage to everything just fine but it seemed like when I disconnected 3 case fans that were pretty much ineffective due to touching up against the fans on my CPU heatsink, it got considerably slow and laggy and even crashed due to normal CPU related crashes (overheating or insufficient voltage and it definitely was not voltage). Plugged fans back in and problems pretty much was solved, but yet, my temps never up or anything, just a crazy bus speed on Everest and Everest only (yet it's the only thing that connects the lag to some numbers). (even my bios temps don't get out of normal range)
No one has been able to help me and I'm quite confused. I'm almost positive it has to do with my heatsink or thermal paste but my temp numbers don't spike and that's the only difference between my situation and many others (yet 3 programs all register the same temps+the bios) so my question is...could that be it? I only have so much thermal paste left and would rather not try digging into that without knowing the possibilities. Though I will say it all originally started before I changed my stock CPU heatsink.
