Hey all

I have an Intel I7-4790K processor and a corsair H60 to help cool it.
A few days ago I had removed the pre-applied paste from the cooler and applied my own to see if it had any effect on the CPU in a good way.
Bad idea.
After applying my own thermal paste I had let it set and then jumped into a game of Overwatch, within 5 minutes my core temps were reaching 100°C with the fan going full force. Not only that but the CPU now sits at 60°C at IDLE 🙁. If anyone could help me find a solution that would be much appreciated

Many Thanks

UPDATE 2:

Thanks guys for your support!
I installed the stock Intel CPU and guess what?
It WAS the cooler

The computer gets to about 50 degrees on 100% load and it sitting idle at around 35-40 degrees. Thank god it wasn't the CPU :)

Thanks a lot

Likely your cooler isn't on? I had this and it turned out i just hadn't installed my cooler totally correctly. Maybe check that.

UPDATE:

The cooler is definitely connected properly, the fans are working perfectly fine.
The water block is also seated correctly I have tightened the screws (not VERY hard) so that it has more contact with the paste but it still is not cooling.

The fan power can be on, while the actual radiator and block power can be off. Try to post pics of the back of the wiring behind the motherboard to imgur and link them if you can that would be the easiest way to help.

it may be possible you didn't apply the new thermal paste properly

Sure the pump is working on the H60? What vcore does CPU-Z show under a stress test?
