Uhhhhh go into your bios and change the system clock from 100 to 200.

Barton 2500+ @ 2200mhz (10x220 vcore @ 1.8)
Asus A7N8X Dlx 440 FSB
1gb Geil GD pc3500 Dual Channel (2-3-3-6)
Segata 80gb SATA 8.5ms seek
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro(420/720)

CPU External Freq. = 100mhz
CPU Frequency Multiple setting = Auto
system performance = optimal
memory frequency = auto
fsb spread spectrum = 0.50%
agp spread spectrum = Disabled
Cpu vcore setting = auto

what do i change... when i change the cpu frequency to 200mhz and change memory freq to SPD my comp wont load up so i have to reset the jumpers to get it to load up again

Try to manually put the memory frequency at 200mhz. You should also manually set the timings of your RAM (2-3-3-6 for your Corsair memory if I'm not mistaken).

Good luck!

Hmmm thats not good at all. Tried flashing the CMOS? Even if your multiplier was way high the machine would just constantly reboot. Have you the flashed the BIOS to ver 1007 yet? Also in between the PCI slots should the the model name of the mobo A7N8X. Is there a rev 2.00 to the right of that?

Also what is your Vcore and Vdimm at? You Ram timming setting would also be helpfull too.

Right! I forgot about this. If you don't have the 2nd revision of the A7N8X you won't be able to operate at 400mhz, only 333mhz.

Thats belived that the voltage to the northbridge is insufficient to acheive anything over 190 clock. There is a bios for this mobo that will let you adjust the voltage to it and resolves this problem.

ok this is wat i get on startup screen:

Asus A7n8X2.0 Deleuxe ACPI BIOS REV 10006
Amd athlon (tm) XP 1100mhz

these are my advanced chipset settings

CPU FREQ multiple setting = auto
x CPU Freq multiple = 11.0x
System performance = optimal
x CPU Interface = optimal
Memory frequency = auto
Resulting frequency auto
x memory timings optimal
x sdram active precharge delay = 4
x sdram ras to cas delay = 2
x sdram ras precharge delay = 2
x sdram cas latency = 2t
FSb spread spectrum = 0.50%
agp spread spectrum = disabled
CPU Vcore setting = auto
x cpu vcore = 1.650
Graphics aperture size = 64mb
agp freq = auto
system BIOS cacheable = disabled
video RAM cacheable = disabled
ddr reference voltage = 2.6v
agp vddq voltage = 1.5v
agp 8x support = enabled
agp fast write capability = enabled

note when i change memory freq to by SPD my timming change to 2.5t-3-3-8
anyone know what to do im lost

Insted of using 2-2-2-4 timmings, use 2-3-3-6 timmings on the ram with ddr reference voltage at 2.7. That active precharge delay is too low. Change the graphics aperature size to 128. Disable agp fast write capability.

when i load windows in safe mode cpu runs at full speed, but when i load windows normally the computer dies

Changed Adv Chipset Settings:
External CPU freqquency: 200MHz
FSB Spead Spectrum: 1.0%

Is this a copy of windows from a prior system config? Try Reinstalling windows. Safe mode only loads the standard windows drivers while the normal boot loads everything. Just for kicks, cranks the vcore to 1.7 if it is not there already to give the cpu more juice.

ok finally figured out the problem. the cpu is overheating when i turn my computer on it shoots to 60 degrees and gradually increases and thats just in the bios and within 5mins its reaching 80 degrees thats 5 degrees of the die temp. Anyone know wats wrong? im using the amd heat sink and fan i got with the processor surely this should be keeping it cooler than that?

Try removing the plastic foil on the heatsink thermal "gum" :)

That definately not right. Reinstall the HSF and gently wiggle it to see if it moves Make sure the wrapping for the thermal paste has been removed. Also If you are using a Shim, this could very much be the problem. Make sure you have remove any wrappings on the shim or just to hell with it. Make sure your the fan is rotating when on. Let me know what happens.

Also, suggest you use a rear case exhaust fan and that your PS wires are not blocking the intake air fan from moving the air through your case. Using a PS that also has an exhaust fan at the bottom near your CPU also helps according to ASUS Website. My XP 3000 was running high in low 70s before I cleared the wires and reversed the air flow of my rear case fan to be an exhaust flow. Also after I changed my CoolMaster HHC-L61 to a Silent Boost, my CPU now runs @ 37 degrees C.
