CPU Really Hot In Geometry Dash, while under low loads

Hi,

So i have noticed that while i am playing geometry dash my cpu (i7-6700k) goes up to 60-70 C. This is all while it is under 20% load. All these are according to MSI afterburner. I am not sure while as if im playing other games such as the Witcher my CPU is under around 40% and barely reaches 60C. I can also hear the fan cranking up so its not Afterburner reading it wrong and I tried updating it too. My guess is that the game is causing some issue in the software or issues with drivers for the TMUs of the CPU (I dont know much about this stuff), making the CPU appear hotter then it is. If you have any idea why or how to fix this or if its normal that for some reason it is so much hotter at lower loads and the temp reading is actually fine then please let me know. Thanks

I'm not familiar with that game, but it sounds as if it might be very cpu dependent. And I would take those "20% load" values with a grain of salt (someone here correct me if I'm wrong, but that's more a reflection of the cpu task scheduler and not the actual load of the processor).

If it is a very cpu dependent game, 60-70 is warm but well within safe operating temp. If it gets to 80 or 85 it is time to worry. And nothing from the game would cause any issues that would output an incorrect temperature value.

Try using HWMon/Info, run an instance of it at stock, take a screenie, then run it whilst playing the game and again take a screenie.

Does it happen in any other games? Only that one!? If you hear the fan cranking up, it's because the curve is too aggressive, but more likely in this case because your CPU is overheating. You may just need to apply some thermal paste. Also what cooler do you have? I'm sure it's fine for your CPU, but if it's a few years old maybe the bearings are going. Is it making noise apart from spinning up?

Thanks for the reply. It is a cpu dependant game but the only thing that made me wonder about the temperatures is that it’s the same in the loading screen, when (at least I don’t think) my cpu has to complete any tasks as I’m not playing nor loading a level.

Ya who knows what it's doing in the background while loading...it may be busy building assests, etc. Again, that processor could safely run 24/7 for many many months at 70 degrees with absolutely no issues whatsoever.

Thanks for the reply. This doesn’t happen in other games, but as I mentioned it does reach 60+ degrees in other games but it says that it’s under 50% load so I was just wondering why is it the same temperature if it’s less then half of the load. Regarding the curve I am planning on the keep the system for a while and I can bear with the noise as long as it helps to keep it cool it’s just that again under 20% it’s not normal to have it that high. I will defineltly try HWMon as you said. I got the build just over a year ago so the paste should be fine. I’m not sure of the fan model but it’s a Coolermaster tower about 3/4 cm thick, single fan and 6 copper pipes. My system in general makes weird noises but that’s only when the gpu is under load (which it isn’t in this game) not when the cpu is.

You’re right I shouldn’t worry about it by the time it would break I will need an upgrade anyways probably.. I was just purely wondering why that’s the case and the lower the temps the lower I can keep my fan rpm and the less noise but I’m fine with the noise as I have headphones it’s just purely better without it but as I said it’s bearable.
