CPU support / Asus M2N68-LA (Narra3) motherboard

I am planning to upgrade my Pavilion Elite m9190.de-a PC(http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01364891&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3670053) which shipped with an AMD Phenom 9500 CPU, Asus M2N68-LA (Narra3) motherboard and 460W power supply.

The motherboard specifications page (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01357135&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3686674) tells us that "Phenom with Quad Core technology (AM2+)" processors are supported. However, the default processor shipped with the system has only 95W TDP while the newer Phenoms have 125W (9850) or 140W (9950) TDP. The fastest Phenom with 95W TDP is the newer version of Phenom 9750 (model HD9750WCJ4BGH) at the moment.

1) I'd like to know if anybody has tested any of the newer CPU's listed above (AMD Phenom 9750/9850/9950) with the Asus M2N68-LA (Narra3) motherboard and whether they work or not. As there are no multiplier/frequency settings available on the BIOS setup menu, the question is not only if these newer processors are recognized at all, but also whether they operate at their correct speed.

2) If the motherboard has no limitations on CPU speed, but the power supply output is the limiting factor, what kind of power supply should be used with a Phenom 9950? I have upgraded the RAM to 8GB (4x 2GB) DDR2 800MHz, otherwise the computer is in the original configuration.

3) If the processor can be upgraded, is the default cooling enough or should I also add a more powerful CPU fan?

Funny I'm looking at this too right now, even though my Computer is Fast as it is.... guess its just the fact that I want to MAX it. Thinking of Adding AMD Phenom™ II X4 940 3.0ghz

I have the same motherboard Asus M2N68-LA (Narra3) with a phenom 9500 on it and wanted to upgrade the CPU to a Phenom 9950. Before installing the new processor I contacted the HP support and they told me the following:

"your PC is preinstalled with Phenom-9500 Agena 2.2 GHz (95W) processor.

The Maximum approved processor on your PC is:

Sempron less than 3800+
Athlon64 less than 4000+
Athlon64 X2 up to 5600+ (up to 89 watt TDP)
Phenom up to 9600 (up to 95 watt TDP)

Hence, you can not upgrade your processor to Phenom Processor 9850 or Phenom Processor 9950."

So there is no use in upgrading to a Phenom with more than 95W.

It might be possible that the new Phenom II (95W) runs on the board...

hi, i bought a second hand hp m9421. it has amd quad phenom 9500 and uses asus m2n68-la (narra3) motherboard. it had a nvidia geforce 8600 GT card with 3 outputs (dvi, hdmi, and s-video). i want to extend my desktop so now brought a 8600 GT card with (vga, dvi, s-video) also three ports but now i can use the dongle on dvi to attach a 2nd monitor.

when i turn the pc back on i get blank screen. i was busy installing win7 before that and had no extra drivers to install therefore assumed that replacing the cards would be safe. i switch back to the old card and same result.

have reset the cmos according to tinyurl.com/naz82q . have also removed the cmos battery and put back in. (this so i can access the standard vga adapter on the motherboard)

does anyone know how to fix this? when i replace the cards, all the fans work and pc doesn't make any beeps.

I have a narra3 that also came with a phenom 9500.
I was able to successfully upgrade to an amd phenom II 925 95w cpu.
The cpu reads as unidentified AMD Processor Unknown Model 2.8 Mhz.
CPUz recognized it no problem.

I have the m8330f with Asus Narra 3 and successfully upgraded to a AMD Phenom X4 9750, code name Agena(HD9750WCJ4BGH).

CPUID
Core speed = 1205.5Mhz x 6.0
Bus Speed = 200.9Mhz
HT Link = 1004.6Mhz

Only one better i found @ 95w was this business class CPU, but the price was 2x more!

I am pretty sure that it will after reading the posts above mine as well as other ones on other sites. The only problem I will encounter is the "unknown processor" in the bios. The 840 has the same specs as the phenom II x4 925 and 945 so I think I am going to take the plunge and buy it. Let me know what you guys think. Its a great buy!

I 2 have the Narra3 MB with the 9500 chip. Is the 840 a good choice? Or please suggest another chip. I lost my last comp to a lightning strike and this is what I could afford used at the time.

win 7 32 bit, 3g ddr2 ram, 300w power supply (that will be upgraded first), geforce gt 240 Gddr5-512
which is the only non stock part.

I could probably afford a chip and power supply but won't be able to come-up with any real money until spring. Would it be best to save 4 a while and just get an i7- yada yada Or will an 840 and good PS be sufficient 4 a year or 2.

I play starcraft 2 which can slow down the system in 4v4 games. I read that the 9500 isn't great in SC2, is this correct?
