I have been having this problem for as long as I can remember. I cannot get my CPU temps lower than 98F. I've even replaced my cooling system from an H60 to just a regular Hyper 212 EVO.

I'm at the point now where is it possible I just fried my CPU and now it won't stay at cooler temps, or is that impossible? I have no idea what to do.

I'm actually getting lower FPS on some games now that these settings are in place. Could this be due to my voltage being TOO low? Or does that not make sense?

Yeah, that's what I was making my way to. Problem is that I'm sort of going back to my original problem with voltage like that. I'm 60-70Cs. Is that acceptable?

well your vid is 1.176v so if your running full stock, no overclocking, then you shouldn't need anymore than that, do you have your ram configured correctly in the bios ?

No idea to be honest. I didn't touch anything having to do with the ram in the BIOS. What would I be looking for?

As you have a Gigabyte motherboard you will have a menu in the bios called M.I.T, in there somewhere, there should be memory settings or advanced memory settings, enter that and then it will say something like XMP Profile ----- might say disabled, if it does its a drop down menu, just select profile 1, then save and exit, the rest is automatic, your memory is programmed with it correct settings and the motherboard will read those, it will set correct speed, timings, and voltage for your ram.

Which motherboard model do you have ?

Alright guys, so I've been having some issues with this. I'm currently up to 1.34v (and I keep having to raise it), because my computer will completely crash with a blue screen. I also tried the memory profile Seanie suggested, and that didn't seem to do anything either. At this point, I think I'll be almost going up to 1.37v like I was before. Is this normal?

Still way too high in my opinion. My CPU easily hit 100C at 1.35 volts which is why I had to settle for 4.3Ghz at 1.3.

It is possible the CPU has been damaged with long term exposure to high temperatures and voltages. Not much you can do about that except get a new CPU.

I would still recommend a BIOS update at this point. Many improvements are made and it could fix some of the stability issues at low voltages.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Isn't updating the BIOS risky, or am I crazy. What's the first step to go about updating the BIOS, I never even have.

Go to the motherboard manufacturer's website. Download the latest available BIOS.

Usually you just need to have the file on some form of removable media. There will be a flash utility in the BIOS. Point it to the updated file and it will kick off.

There is a minor risk that something could go wrong during the upgrade and the motherboard would be rendered inoperative. Something like a power failure or a corrupt BIOS file could do this. The EEPROM itself could always fail, but it is highly unlikely, usually good for a few hundred writes. (Actually not sure on these newer, larger chips, not really a technology that makes news)

I guess I could try this. It's so weird. I've been having the crashes as I've described since lowering the voltage and setting everything to normal and instead of auto. Since I wanted to eliminate the crashes, I loaded the optimized defaults in the BIOS. This is what it does. Why does the auto/OD settings make my voltage so high?

I have the exact same CPU and cooler (i7 4790k and coolermaster hyper 212 evo) with a Gigabyte motherboard (Gaming 7 z97) and I have no issues with voltage, temps, or crashes. How long was your CPU at those high temps? The only time I ever had an issue was after I left my case open for like a month, and the dust buildup caused my CPU to peak at 88C during heavy use. I used compressed air, and I now max out at 70-72C. Here are my voltages and temps for comparison

Man, that's crazy. It was running for a longggg time (months) before I realized performance was lacking.

No more suggestions on anything to tweak huh? Do I have to chalk this one up to running overheated too long and buy a new CPU? Is it possible it did any damage to the motherboard, or really, will a new CPU actually do the trick?

Ahh, still cared to mess something up. I feel like I'm going to royally screw it up.

Well I took the plunge trying to update BIOS. However, when I opened flash utility after downloading the new BIOS on my flash drive, it said no flash drive detected/no flash drive found. I tried multiple USB ports, all the same result. I formatted the drive too. Is this a sign not to mess with this LOL? What could I be doing wrong?
