CPU temp

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware (More info?)

Every CPU is different. You should find the spec/data sheets online for the
processor in question. For example, Original Athlon XP's and the Pentium 4's
with the Prescott core run very hot, while Celerons, amd durons and others
run cool.

Intel:
http://www.intel.com/design/Pentium4/documentation.htm#datasheets

AMD:
http://www2.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/1,,30_182_739,00.html

Example, my AMD Opteron 148's max CPU temp is 70C. With my Zalman
heatsink/fan, I rarely go above 50C even after a few hours of Doom 3. If
mine goes above 55C, I start looking for new cooling solutions (but that's
just my personal preference.) My motherboard allows me to set alarms when
temp thresholds are reached.

Are you running the retail heatsink & fan with that 2800?

WOW! That is *WAY* too hot for a 2800+ at idle. There is definitely a
problem with your system.

also.

45 Celsius at idle with 8 fans? You really have a major problem with your
system I am running an AMD64 3200+ with 2 fans and it idles at 34 Celsius
and runs 43 Celsius at peak when online gaming.

You need to take a serious look at your system...there is definitely a major
problem somewhere...with 8 fans, I suspect your airflow pattern is whacked
and the hot air is not being moved away from the proc. If that is not the
case, then you have other serious issues.

Rankin is the F scale from absolute zero, same as Kelvin is
C scale from absolute zero. I just made up the 500 number,
because every CPU has a different temperature design. The
only accurate and correct number is to check the specs on
the site www.intel.com or www.amd.com

Google for "cpu thermal limits" and you should find your
answers. You can also Google Intel and AMD sites.

Degrees Celsius
Degrees Fahrenheit
Degrees Kelvin

Rankin is -459.67 F

My Athlon XP 3200+ runs at 36C with 3 fans. Better whip your system into
shape!

Fan blowing on fan? Could be cause of trouble. The whole idea is to create
an airflow in one direction. Fan against fan could negate this effect. It
would be like trying to empty a leaking pail while pouring water into it.
