CPU temps 99 C

Hi Guys,

First of all, this is my new build that I put together this weekend.

My Issue: PC ran great for the first few hours, but then as soon as I downloaded the CAM software I restarted the PC and all of a sudden, the PC is really loud. I started to get pop ups from Cam software stating that the CPU temp and coolant temps are too high. Temperatures are reading around 97-99 degree's C. I checked BIOS and my temp monitoring program and they all confirmed the same. I shut off my PC and my research suggested that I re-seat my kraken on my mobo and perhaps clean and re-apply thermal. Any other suggestions? I'll be trying fixes tonight after work.

Go into the motherboard BIOS and look at the CPU temperature.

If it's fine (probably roughly 30degC or so) then your cooler is working okay likely.

If your PC got "really loud" then that means your fans ramped up, but if at the same time temps went high then it absolutely must be an issue with the pump... the pump circulates fluid in closed loop; the CPU warms the fluid and the fans blow the radiator to remove heat.. so unless the fluid leaks out you only have the PUMP and FANS so it's got to be one or the other.. thus if the fans work it's the pump.

Unless the pump died or is dying (which should cause the BIOS temp to be high too I'd think) then perhaps raising the fan speed is diverting power from the pump.

*Is it possible you have the fans or pump connected incorrectly?

I'll post this then investigate.

So there's TWO different cables (there's no way to screw this up IMO):

1) PUMP:
a) one part to SATA power, and
b) other part to CPU_FAN on motherboard

2) USB (for CAM to change pump and fan settings based on your CAM changes)

I'd also verify with HWMonitor that the CPU temps are correct in CAM. I just go by the package temp.

Thermal paste is hard to screw up. If you use roughly 5mm ball (pea-sized) or thin strips the cooler spreads it out just fine.

It is a possibility that a cable could be messed up. I'll have to check those three specifically when I get home before I turn on PC. However, I did confirm that the fans with the radiator are working. BIOS read the same temps. High 90's..I saw as high as 99 degree's C on all cores. I downloaded core temp and that also showed the same high temps. This PC is brand new, I hope the Kraken isn't defective, but its possible? I suppose its also possible that I installed it wrong, but I'm not sure. I followed the manual.

When in BIOS that means Windows isn't running thus CAM software not in control. AFAIK the pump unit should be in some sort of default state so how in heck could the temps be high?

Even on its lowest you'd think the pump would be sufficient for idle.

IMO there's only these possibilities:
a) pump is defective, or
b) insufficient or missing fluid, or
c) power delivery issue to pump through SATA connector (unlikely)

So contact Kraken Tech Support and tell them your temps in BIOS and in Windows.

(odd it happened right after running CAM software so I'm guessing that somehow killed the pump or the pump died by coincidence... really hard to imagine what else it could be since again the pump should ALWAYS be on and its lowest speed should keep idle temps cool enough)

All right, I'll give them a call after I verify everything is installed correctly and follow up with what I find out.

I'm going to run a load right now and see how it does. I'm idling at 25 degree's C atm after letting it sit for the last 12 hours. I checked all the cords and re-plugged them in today when I got home, but the CPU_Fan was plugged in to the right spot on mobo, USB plugged into USB spot on Mobo and Sat as well, so lets see how the load goes. I'll report in 5 mins.

I just ran a IntelBurnTest v2.54 at standard stress level. Completed in 144 secs and temps generally stayed at 45-50 degree's C and only once spiked up to the low 60's. After the test they are back down idling around 26/27 degree's C. I'll start gaming for a bit and keep and eye on them...not sure what could have happened. Had to re-install CAM software today too because it wouldn't open. Wondering if its kind of a buggy program?

My PC has yet to run load like it did yesterday. I here the coolant running when my tempered glass is off and I put my ear close..otherwise its pretty darn quiet.

Hopefully all is good now? Hour into Fortnite and my temps are still at 32 degrees.
