Heloo. I have laptop Hp 6735b. It is over 6 years old. Last few weeks it keeps to shout down when gets more process to do. It get hotter and shuts down. I bought cooler pad but didn't help a lot. So i decide to open it and see termal pasta and change it after 6+ years. It was never changed and this is picture how it looked after opening.

So any advice to do in forward would help a lot.

Thx Jobube

Solution

I hope this is not the case but you could have a hole in your Heat Pipe and the fluids leaked out. You might be able to find the exact same laptop on eBay for sale that is not working so that you can take the parts you need. You could maybe get the heatsink here...
Thx for thermal paste. It is not my native language so :). Ok i clean it up and this i how it looks now. You can see all parts and new paste i bought. Only one i find in only store in my city.

I allredy watch videos how to put pasta. But only have one question . How long do i need to wait to boot my laptop after i put new paste?

Heloo. So i put paste and started my laptop. So this is my temperature atm after 5-10 min runing. In one point got to 100 C.

So is there any time for paste to take effect on temperature or is there a other problem with my hardwares?

Update: after 20 min runing temp is 80 C with no proces at all.

That temperature is extremely high. Thermal paste has a small burn-in time that will reduce the temp by a couple degrees, nothing significant.

You should not be using your laptop with those temps (think of how hot boiling water is, that's your CPU right now). You may have applied the paste incorrectly. Your laptop is old also, so if there is a hardware issue you should just buy a newer one.

I understand temperature and how hot it is. I just want to make him avaible for surfing and watching videos. Is there any chance to get better if buying new CPU or some other parts? Any advice in next step or anything that could help.

P.S I got new laptop for other staff to do so i m not planing to play game and staff on older one.

Replacing CPUs on laptops is rare. In fact newegg only sells one mobile CPU, and its $600.

Did a fan die? Does the laptop seem more quite? Only other thing I can think of is not applying the heatsink correctly.

Thermal paste is the issue. First off, that's way too much. You need a very small dab of it. Then you need to spread it evenly across the CPU making the thinnest layer possible.

Your CPU can't breathe. All the heat is trapped by the paste. You need to reapply it in a much smaller amount.

Amount:

This is on a desktop CPU. Keep the ratio of the size of the CPU to the amount of thermal paste the same.

I watched on few videos that is better to leave it in one peace and not to spread it like this becouse air bubles got traped. But it is not problem i will open it again and remove it and put new paste as you told me.

I did what you told me. Temperature is lower by few C but stil always 85+ C. There is problem with something elss and i don't know whit what. If anyone have idea im all ear.

Yes i did. Workin fine. But strange thing is that air is more cold than hot. so i think maybe problem is with heatsink or something.

But wird is that after 15 sec from starting my laptop temperature is allredy very hot . I don't understand why temperature is going up so fast..

thermal paste translated to Spanish is (Pasta termal). So it was Spanish in wrong order

what software are you using to check temperatures?
Try this Aida64 or HWmonitor.... Also you should have put a little less thermal paste .

Just putting a dab and putting the heatsink on after is another method that typically works as well.

When my heatsink didn't fully cover my CPU my temperatures would reach 80C in a matter of minutes. Make sure it is directly on the CPU and the entire CPU is covered by the copper.

I did use HW monitor as well. And i did put less thermal paste 2nd time i change it. But still temperature went up. So i open it 3th time and saw that pasta is the way as it should be. It was very nice looking , covering almost all sufface and nothing outside of that. So i repeat it again with same amount as 2nd time. So paste is in good position.

Only thing that is wird is that cold air from fan. Like no heat is going outside from heatsink. So maybe is someking of problem with that?

At least this time (3th) i got temperature to 65 C with no sigle proces. But after turning bsplayer on and watched move for 12 min it went up over 90+.

And one more thing. When i try to go in BIOS my laptop shut downs in less that 30 sec. Maybe reinstaling windows or something with software can help?

Your computer shuts down because your CPU overheats and turns off to prevent damage. Reinstalling Windows will not help. I'm at a loss at this point. Only thing i've seen do it is the heatsink not being on correctly, however you've moved it many times with no results.

Can this be problem with motherboard? Before 2 years motherboard didn't work . So we fried it ( Not me but one guy who did i allredy and is in IT job ) and till last few weeks laptop worked just fine. That shure make some effect on temperature rising but it was before 2 years. Worked till last 2 months.

If nothing comes in your mind i will forward my laptop to someone who knows better than me and see if they can find way to lower temp.

Baking is dangerous to the components. The comments say it works but my common sense says it will cause damage.

The science behind it kind of makes sense, such as making the connections between the components and the board stronger again, but I wouldn't do it. You could have caused damage and now the motherboard is sensitive to heat.

Baking really only helps with completely dead motherboards, where the solder joints are broken. The heat melts whatever lead is left back into the right places. But your computer isn't completely dead, it's overheating. Baking it wouldn't do anything.
