hi everyone
so i want to upgrade my current athlon 4200
i was thinking either the athlon 8750 or phenom 9600
my mobo (asus m2n32 deluxe) bios doesnt have am3 support yet
so my question would be which one would be better for gaming for <$100

thanks in advance!

Can't something be done about procannonerdicekehead, he's new, only posted 20 posts and all of these are offensive:

Too bad Asus has bothered to add support for Kuma CPUs on that board or I'd suggest the 7750. I say go with the cheap 5400 BE and overclock it. It's a good value overclocked and you'll have enough money to put a good aftermarket cooler to reach higher speeds. An overclocked 6000/6400+ would be a little faster for gaming, but not much so I don't think it's worth it (and the 6400 is a little over $100 at the moment). If you want to go with the Windsor 6000 anyway then get the 89W version. The brisbane version of the 6000+ doesn't make sense (unless you got an HP or dell with no overclocking options) when a 5400BE can easily surpass that speed while costing much less.

Forget the Phenom 1, they are crap. Your best upgrade is gonna be the Dual core X2 6000+. If you can find one.

Your best bet would be wait till you have enough for a mobo/cpu combo. What do you have for memory?

i have ddr2 800
was thinking about waiting for the new phenom ii x2 and get a new mobo/ram same time but i dont play that much due to work/school

^ Yeah, except it looks like his board (M2N32 SLI Deluxe) is limited to a 9850 at best judging by the CPU support chart for it. I don't think it will be getting support for AM3 CPUs, but hey you can always write ASUS support and hope for the best :D.

Anyway for your budget I still say go with the 5400BE and overclock it. If you want to get the 6000+ go for it as overclocked it will beat out an overclocked Brisbane based model, but I don't think it's worth the extra money it costs and it generates more heat (especially the 125W model).
