Hi, I'm upgrading my i5-9600k to a 12th gen i5. Will the ASUS PRIME B760-PLUS D4 mobo be enough to handle a 12600k/12600kf or should i go with a 12400/12400f?

That board would work, but it isn't very good power delivery wise. I wouldn't choose it.I am certain there are better options, at a similar price point. Where are you buying from?
the fact is that i got it since a friend had it and never used it so it's new and free. For the price i have on amazon italy for the CPU i think it the better choises i have are the 12600k and the 12400f since i dont want a ryzen an i7 costs too much and an i3 isnt even that cheap with the performance it has (the 15 12600k is around 200euros while i found i3s at like 140+). if for example i put the 600k in that mobo what whould happen? some sort of lower performance since it cant go at its max? what about the 12400 instead?

so

so i won't run in any problem compared to a 16pin mobo?
You would have to buy the new mobo. :)

Take the 12600K. Best choice for the money. If you buy a 12600KF, you save a little but lose on board graphics.
13600K is much more expensive and not all that much better, esp. in a budget PC. The mobo could run it though, if you wish.

You will enjoy a nice performance boost over the old CPU with the 12600K.

What is the rest of the stuff you plan to use in the build?

You are good.
But, I might ask, why the 12600K?
If buying new, current gen at list prices will offer better price/performance.
A 12600K on clearance is a good deal.

I3/i5/i7/19 no longer indicate number of cores and hyperthreading.
It is now more of a general performance category.
For example, the i3-14100 performs about the same.

Having checked the prices, i guess it's because in italy, the 12600K is around 200 euro and the 13600K or 14600K are above 300.

I am in finland, and some of the motherboards here cost almost a hundred dollars more than US amazon, etc. prices.
PSUs also have different prices.

my complete build is:
MOBO: mpg z390 gaming plus
CPU: i5 9600k (cooled with a corsair ICUE H150i)
GPU:ASUS rx 6600
RAM 2x8 3000mhz vengeance lpx
PSU: a modular EVGA 750w GOLD

also i think i'll go with the F version since i dont care about the integrated graphic

yeah the prices are a bit strange here in italy since the 14th gen of i3 are more that 200 that can change daily or also hourly and some mobos are kinda overpriced compared to other parts with like a 100 euros difference

nothing particular tbh i've never had issues with i5s and always been happy with the price/performance. since i'm the only one in my friend group that is more manual with building PCs i've worked on my friends PCs and the ones that had i7s or i3s had problems with them while the build i personally made, wich they actually still have with i5s, are running fine and still going (more old like a 8th/9th gen to newer like 12th/13rd gen). So the i5 is more a personal preference.

The price will probably make this decision for you. Just remember that having on board graphics can let you use BIOS or OS even if your GPU dies or has a problem. Without on board graphics, you are blind.

Usually the price difference is $20-30, which is worth paying. Of course, if the price is much greater then it may not be worth it. Esp. if you know you will never use the on board graphics.
