Ihave just got the asus rog maximus xi extream and a intel 9900k,have /and are using ai overclocking based on cpu temp, (cooling system points 198) I am runing water cooling 6 fans in push/pull and the cpu is ideling at 26c at 5200ghz
acuely beeing a ittle scared of this set up,expensive parts but will they last? do you recomend throttling down?I actualy I dont need that high speed.

If you dont need it I would deffinitely 'throttle' down scince all your components will suffer less and the chance of encountering problems will grow smaller.

If you are idling at 26C, that is really good. The best test is seeing what your LOAD temperatures are. That will tell you what kind of heat you will be dealing with.

I would recommend downloading Prime 95 and testing with it. If you are under 80C-90C then you should be OK for long term.

Prime95 (use version 26.6, vice the later version of 29.4, etc)/small FFTs generally heat a system quite quickly within 5-10 min, and with some sort of fluid based system, may gradually rise in temps over the course of a half hour; but, generally P95 gives worst case temps a full 10C over what are normally ever seen while actual gaming.

I'd see what temps are seen with all- core turbos of 5 GHz (with MCE one), and see if happy with those frame rates, vice running at what is undoubtedly the 'ragged edge' of stability, and, undoubtedly hitting 40-50 more watts of power for that last 100-200 MHz...

See what all-core turbo clocks you can get without exceeding 75-79C....
