I will try my best to describe exactly what happened.

I7 4770k with maximus vi hero with an h100i to cool

Ok ok I think I might have a bad chip. So basically I am over clocking for 4.4ghz and need a 1.38 voltage to even be able to start my prime 95. Seems ridiculous but supposedly anything under 1.4 volts and under 80 °c is fine?

Question is should I be happy with this overclock. Should I return it and try another chip. I live near my frys which j actually work at. I have till the 13th to return it.

Any advice thanks

Yes I did that. I set everything to as if it was brand new. Now I'm following a new super informative guide. I think I have a pretty chappy haswell chip. At 4.4gh it would crash with 1.29cpu volt so I'm going 1.32 now and hopefully it's stable. Just kind of bummed.

ah,i see.when i overclocked my biggest problem was my ram.it overclocked along with my cpu and the added ram frequency was what caused my instability.i set my ram frequency to stock and everything worked fine.not an expert on overclocking but maybe one of the gurus will chime in here.

exact reason i want to return it and try another go at a different one, all chips are different when it comes to overclocking. like golden chips that get 4.8ghz with 1.25 vcore. i dont want a cpu that crashes and barely gets 4.3ghz at almost 1.4 vcore. i would think its my mobo but the supply of energy was good just cpu that was crashing.
