Create boot on ssd

what motherboard do you have? what brand M.2 drive is it?
I think there are extra steps needed to install onto M.2 drives. I don know you won't want the hdd attached when you do it. ONce you tell me the answers to top two questions, I will see what I can find

It is a Toshiba Satellite Ultrabook with Windows 10 E45T-A4300. The M.2 is a THNSNX032GTNT
The other HD is a WD7500BPVX

So its a 32gb ssd.. i understand whats going on now. You don't install Win 10 on the ssd, you install it on the hdd and use the 32gb ssd as a cache drive.
What you do is install win 10 on the hdd and once its installed, use Intel Rapid Storage software on the 32gb ssd, it acts as a buffer to speed the hdd up

Is win 10 on the hdd already? Perhaps its already set up that way now. was SSD in ultrabook entire time and you just found it inside PC and wondered why it wasn't being used?

No it was there. The original Hd crashed and need to be replaced. In my quest to discover why the computer was not booting sometimes and failing to install updates. I deleted all partitions on both the SSD and HDD. Now my HDDwill be here Monday so I can do a clean install of the whole system. Hopefully this will also fix why the SSD only reports as 11gig instead of 32gig.

You will need to format the ssd and leave it as unallocated space as otherwise the Intel program won't use it. I think hdd and ssd both need to be set as raid as well but they may be already
The extra space might be used space but I don't fully understand how the intel program works as I can't run it on my PC, the feature not supported by my board, they removed it.

That "32GB SSD" in the laptop is/was originally meant as a cache drive, not a standalone 32GB for theOS>
And 32GB is really WAY too small. Yes, it will install, just barely. But you would be severely limited with the OS on that drive.
Been there, done that.
It is too small for actual use.
What will fail?
The next large Windows Update. I have a Asus Transformer with a 32GB eMMC drive. Basically, only the OS (Win 10 Home) and a couple of small utilities.
The August Anniversary release would not install, simply because there was not enough free space on the drive.
I strongly urge you not to install it like that.

trying to work out how to empty ssd. Does it show in file explorer?
Curious if running dban on ssd (remove hdd from laptop, don't want any accidents) would give you the full capacity - download the free version: http://www.dban.org/ - it creates a bootable USB so don't need windows, it will wipe entire ssd.
