Wondering if this drive is a good buy .

What price are you getting it at? It depends where you're shopping and the price they're selling it for. Overall, I wouldn't say that this is the best drive out there, but it'll suffice.

I bought one for $250, but I haven't tried it yet. Will try sometime tonight I guess.

I was trying to decide between this one and the TDK drive and chose Creative because of the price. I posted on the newsgroups about them, and I was told they are basically the same internally. I even read somewhere on the net that Creative, Plextor, TDK were all the same inside, just different names and software. Don't know if this is true or not.

I recall reading somewhere that the Creative 12x10x32 has the same burn proof technology as the Plextor one. Just can't remember where it is, though.

From what I can remember, the Creative and TDK (there may be others) are actually Plextors with a different company name stamped on.
