Don't forget to remind him that the 5900 Ultra card is SLOW and will have VERY POOR VISUAL QUALITY for DX9 games, not that it would make any difference to someone in the Video Editing community.

I wonder how a Parhelia would hold up in DX9 considering that id does have a Partial DX9 intruction set and also that the GeForce FX cards are taking such a beating. I wish they would benchmark it, becuase I am dying to find this out!

Yeah that was one of the things I was saying earlier. Ooo man perhaps a chance for the Parhelia to embarass the FX. As unlikely as it sounds, you never know, and man would that ever put a smile on my face. I wish more people WOULD benchmark with the Parhelia as it would truely update the perspective (be it for good or for EVIL) about the card. People always include the GF4mx, R8500, FX5200, even a few ATI R7XXX, but rarely do they show Parhelias now. And that's a shame because they were sitll far better (but more expensive of course) than many of those older GPUs people still review.

Oh well, I just would get SUCH a kick out of it if they did tronce the FXs, especially after having seen them foreveer being bad mouthed and getting the crap kicked out of them (usually by the same people asking me to go easy on their FXs, and give them a chance).

Oh well I know where they stand to me, and I do own an ATI, but if the lottery comes my way today (6/49) then I'LL benchmark them myself! It would be interesting, especially with their AA performance, and I wonder if HL2 supports Surround-gaming? I'm gonna check after witing this.... and this.... and

No, HL2 doesn't support it. But Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness does, so it would be interesting to see how it does in that compared to the FXs (considering that the surround aspect sometimes costs very little in perfromance terms).

UT2K4 I guess would be the next big title to support it, although that X2 game is also supposed to support it.
I know Chaser does too, now THAT would be cool. No more JackA$$ camping and surprising me from a corner in the MP version. HEhe!

Strange thing is I do see DeusEX, but not DEUSEX2 in their list.

Oh well, I won't be worrying until the next Matrox build or the Multi PCI-EXs are in my system.

Still not sur yet, I just have my fingers crossed. May involve too much 'talk' across to each card to work. But a PCI-EX next Gen. Matrox may also be an option (should the have something in mind [please have something in mind Matrox, pretty please]).

Once again, we shall see.

I really hope it works out. That will speed up the Graphics industry perhaps.

Personally I'd take AMD for the low to mid range (barton 2500, nuff said). Intel of course is king of the high range, but I don't have that much to dump on a processor.

Yeah, the Barton 2500+ can be had for a mere $100 or less. Its a great performer and a great overclocker. It should run the new games seemlessly with the proper video card of course.

nope that plan wont work. I'm broke right now

i do NOT reccomend you try this, but what if someone simply broke off the 2 pins and tried running it anyway?

o, and barton can be had for $83 OEM. Add in a nice refurbished mobo for $60-70. keep that in mind.

but of course the 2.4C P4 is just a +60 dollar premium.

I agree. Either one is a good purchase and a good value. But the the irresistable $80 - $100 pricetag on the Barton is VERY cheap.

it wont post -_-

and i live in Canada, there are no good deals here.

NOT AGAIN! No more AMD vs. Intel in the Graphics board please. (AMD ownz all!)

And CS, I wish mine would too:)

Actually I'm pretty messed up right now. I switched classes like 2 1/2 weeks into the school year and so I'm really behind and have like 10 sh*tloads of homework, and a crazy AP history test coming up, and some stupid 3+ page essay due monday for AP Am. Lit... and I barely even know what its supposed to be about (something to due with some play I havn't read LOL!). I'm gonna have to call my friend, whos also in the class, about it.

If I don't get up to speed soon u guys might not see me much for a while [cept while I'm in Cisco at school:)].

On top of all that I can't really even do any homework... I can't concentrate, can't eat, can't sleep. Don't wanna go to bed, don't wanna stay up late... (u know the song TKS?) I'm totally trippin over this chick at my school. Damn. Life sucks. I could have written a book by now about all the stuff I've thought of saying to her, or doing, but of course, the minute I see her face it all goes down the sh*tter, much like the FX series in DX9.

TKS (or anyone), you ever heard of these bands?:

Ugly Cassanova [you've probly heard of this one:)]

Well thanks for your input folks. As I said I'm not a gamer but I wanted to get a card that would be capable of anything I asked of it when it came to running applications. I'm sure THG gave the best review they could in light of the data they had at the time. I do have a bad habit of overkill when it comes to purchasing the things I want. (You don't want to know how much I've spent on my 1974 IH Scout, but it will get me through the snow and mud!!!) I'm hoping the driver nVidia, Det 50, has coming out soon takes care of some of these issues on the gaming aspect. I did read that their professional card (Quadro?) is very simular to the FX 5900. That was one of the reasons I went for this card.

I also based my choice on how well their mother board chip sets are received. Thus I thought some of that quality would carry over to their video cards. I guess time will tell on the gaming end of things, as in, whether or not they can develop a driver that will get the hardware to preform as advertised. If they want their new nv38 to sell, they had better get their ducks in a row now on the nv35!!! After what I've read about their failure with the FX 5800, I don't see how a company will get too many chances to dip in to customer's pockets before they get told to take a hike.

I think I'll wait and see what happens with the new driver. If it doesn't come up to snuff, then I'll never buy another nVidia video card and I will urge all those I know to avoid them as well. Bad news carries far and fast. I live in central Wisconsin, USA, and if somebody as a problem with hardware or software, word gets around pretty fast. There are not a lot of "computer geeks" in this area, but many of my friends have connections in the Twin Cities, Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago so the word gets out to those larger markets fairly quick. (and nVidia needs to pay attetion to the markets they are selling in)

As far as my research goes, until this week, I had heard little of nothing firm on problems with this series of cards. In fact, many drooled at the thought that I had purchased this thing. I imagine I'll get a boat load of crap now!!!! LOL

Upside to this whole thing; I tend to learn from my mistakes, usually!!! LOL

Is it supposed to smoke like that? 8-D
Edited by AthlonWarrior on 09/14/03 03:57 AM.

Canada's got GREAT deals. IT just depends on where you live. At major centers there are awesome deals. And NCIX.com has always been pretty good as an e-tailer (and when I could check US prices [now they detect you ISP's location] they even sometimes beat the US e-tailers. TigerDirect.ca is also pretty good with their prices/sales.

Just be happy you don't live in Europe. Some of the prices for things I've seen would be equivalent to the C$ prices. And the Euro and Pound are much higher valued.

Oh well, I'm happy shopping in Canada; with every graphics card I buy I get another igloo tool, beaver pelt, and Health-Care Point. Thank you FS/Best Buy!
