Yes, that is quite a fitting juxtaposition: following up Crytek's typical "PC games get pirated, so we'll make piracy-free console ones instead" directly with a note that what would be one of the biggest "serious gamer" console titles... Is ALSO being pirated before it even gets officially released.

Playing a pirated game on a console isn't as complicated as many might think: it's not necessary to open up the 'box and solder in a chip or something... Most of it's done with soft mods which, when done properly, don't have any real downsides. Plus, they take no real techie knowledge to do. (and besides, most enthusiasts here seem to drastically overestimate the gap between their abilities and the typical gamer's) The fact that console games never come with any significant built-in DRM (since they assume that no one pirates on consoles...) only makes it easier.

[citation][nom]nicklasd87[/nom]I don't understand why more game developers don't register game serial numbers to online accounts. This seems like a tried and true way to combat piracy.[/citation]
Uh, serial numbers didn't stop StarCraft II from being pirated 2.3 million times in 90 days. All the serial numbers really do is raise piracy concerns for the legit buyers. That's more or less the same problem with any DRM, in that it doesn't stop piracy, and only burdens the legitimate buyers. Pirated copies just have a hack to disable that check, just like games of old had hacks to disable the game checking for the CD.

Im not touching that torrent. Ill be buying Crysis 2 for my PC to support the developers because they put alot of hard work into this game.

Good PC games deserve to be purchased in order to ensure good game exist in the future!!! Piracy in the long run will indeed ruin PC gaming! 😛 Cheap asses!

[citation][nom]dimamu15[/nom]50$ for one game. This is why I do not buy games directly. Especially that *rap that EA does with PC version of FIFA.[/citation]

True, gaming titles are getting more expensive. Top new release titles can sell for $59! WTF?!? But if you wanna play you gotta pay but gaming publishers need to know their limits too! But I am willing to spend on quality games in order to fund for future gaming.

Yeah! Games developers got to learn from Blizzard I think. They provide quality games with great content, as well as amazing multiplayer and adding content too. On other hand CoD is now following path of EA sports which falling so badly. I don't know what's up with sales but I am not buying any of it since 2006.

Well Crysis was a mediocre game on an amazing engine, whereas the original Deus Ex was an amazing game on a less than pretty engine. Deus Ex came with my Audigy and once I was done playing it, I was astounded at the beautiful game that was included for free with my soundcard. I purchased Crysis and I was equally astounded at what a disappointing game that I actually spent money on (that I couldn't even run at max at the time - 4870x2). So I'm quite confused as to what Cevat Yerli is is always complaining about. If the gameplay is good, it doesn't matter what the game looks like. There is a reason people are pirating it. Make it playable at max settings and make the gameplay addicting and you'll get your sale.

It's not the case of Crysis, but many titles didn't come to my country, so the only way to play is Piracy, I didn't support it, I bought Crysis, Crysis Warhead, CoD 4, Portal and many others.
The DRM is more a problem than a solution, is boring can't make a Back-up copy and is not this that will stop the piracy.
Another question how this copy came in to internet, someone inside the companies let this hapened. Not a long time, in Brazil, a movie unfinished was put in internet as a marketing strategy.

I guess this proves me wrong. I though Ubisoft's Assassins Creed was going too far requiring the user to login to their servers every time they want to play. I see now this is the only way they can reduce piracy. By having the user register every time and using checksum applications to scan for changes to their binaries, they can have a silver bullet to this problem.

I wouldn't call this a case of pirating unless the pirate worked on the inside and stealthily stole his way into their facility ninja commando style and uploaded the software to all torrent sites around the world in retaliation of their being no playable demo for the PC version of the game.

At least I'd like to think that's the way it all went down.

It was like an Anderson Silva frontkick to the face to PC gamers when they announced that there would be a demo for the upcoming and highly anticipated Crysis 2. The Demo would only available on the Hotbox 360. HOW DARE THEY!!!!!!
How dare they snub us for those can't keep up consoles after we paid all the bills the last few years. I'm in no way condoning this type of behavior and you know as soon as it's on the shelves I have to have it, all I'm saying is .....FEEL THE WRAITH BABY

[citation][nom]shortbus25[/nom]Really they need to give up on DRM if they make it, it will be hacked... They want to sell games stop charging 60+ for a game I'd buy a lot more if they were 20 to 25 dollars a game. [/citation]
You are 100% right about both points! There's no reason to charge $60 for games these days! If they are worried about profit margins, it generally results in much better returns to sell more quantity at less price, than to sell less at more. And I will tell you all, I pay and will pay for real PC games, but ports, well those I download (steal, pirate, torrent, etc.) because experience has shown that ports are typically garbage and I was getting tired of being bent over and getting it up the dark cave by lazy rip-off publishers who don't even tune their console games to PC standards. You F with me, and I will F with you. Simple as that.

Nothing wrong with paying a fair price for a quality product. March 22nd - I'll be there.

Thanks Crytek for making a great PC game!

True, however, if done right then it could eliminate. By done right take a look at Guild Wars. Yes it is an MMO, but the base concept can work for solo games.

Install game, log into account, add key to account, play. No login, no play.

Oh wait, steam works more or less like that...

There are no excuses for piracy, I have pirated games in the past (I now have the legal copies of all of them), but after having major issues and then after patching to try and find a crack for latest version (then finding there isn't one yet), just became more effort than it was worth. Now I buy my games (mostly on Steam now) and I don't have issues with patches and cracks. It is a choice each one has to make for him/her self.

Crappy games get no money. Why would anyone ever expect you to pay for something blindly. Make a demo (a real demo, not that one level for 15 minutes crap) and most pirating will end.

Crysis had customization like an RPG, graphics from God himself, and the linear plot line of the earlier Mario titles. Get with it Crytek, game play is everything. If you want money try a steam approach, tried TF2 with all its quirks free for a weekend and guess what's registered to my Steam account now?

Why do you all seem to think that downloading Crysis 2 via bittorrent, and purchasing it in a month, are mutually exclusive?

Get a clue.

If I enjoy playing the pirated version, I'll buy the retail version. I think most people are of the same mind as me.

How is this possibly a bad thing for CryTek? They should be more confident in their product.

C2 was apparently leaked by an internal employee, so they cant blame the PC community.

The people who download this torrent would have pirated the game anyway, so this will not hurt sales imo.

I pre-ordered the game ages ago, and will not be canceling the order just because I can get an unfinished product for free.

This is why every game developer needs to switch to digital distribution (AKA Steam). Cut out the middle man (retailers) and the prices will come down to reasonable levels. Ever since Steam started doing widespread distributions I've had no reasons to ever pirate games. Multiplayer games have to be purchased if you want to play multiplayer, and singleplayer games become dirt cheap after 4-6 months.
