Crysis sells over a Million Copies...PC Gaming slump what?

Worldwide there are plenty of games selling well. There are plenty of console stinkers out there too. Maybe people can stop quoting outdated, incomplete NPD data as the end of PC Gaming. It's extremely f'ing annoying.

Interesting. I haven't listened to the Webcast yet but I'll have to give it an ear.

But it doesn't necessarily mean the NPD numbers are wrong, only that Crysis is selling much better abroad while having disappointing results here in the U.S.

Alot of games sell better abroad. The US market seems no different than let's say the japanese market, where americans like COD types alot, and japanese seem to like girlie looking guys in their games in "JRPGs".

Ever watch Zero Punctuation? A little bit of swearing, but he's funny as hell.

Go to www.game-monitor.com/search.php?game=crysis Rarely will you ever find more than 1300 players on at any one time... Then check out COD4 or even BF2.. look at the numbers there. 1,000,000 copies? maybe but not very many are actually playing. I bought it but have only played it for about 8 hours and that was when it first came out.

Greetings!

1 million units sold for a AAA game is low.
CoD4, being multi-plataform, sold 7 million.

As I wrote in the "PC Gaming Slump" thread, check the torrent sites for the number of downloads of Crysis, in its various "releases".

Yes, but CoD4 is an entirely different experience than Crysis and will naturally appeal to a different (perhaps more prevalent) crowd. You wouldn't compare Counter-Strike to F.E.A.R. in sales.

With the incomprehensibly complex monster called marketing and the variety of stated opinios and information of anyone and everyone with internet access, game sales are greatly affected by many variables. Blaming software piracy for poor game sales is as ignorant and closed minded and blaming man made co2 emmisions for climate change. The data used to extrapolate such conclusions is narow and hand picked at best and at worst, outright fabrication.

I'm not saying piracy is or is not a problem. But it isn't the end all be all of game sales, profit, or the industry as a whole.

I wouldn't be suprised to see crysis continue to sell as people upgrade and buy new computers. I for one don't intend to upgrade my computer for one game, but I'll buy one game for my upgraded computer.

I think COD4 is going to outsell FEAR easily...

FEAR interestingly enough gives their MP version away for FREE!

Although like all the games online..

MP FPS games require servers to play on.. those servers are not provided by the gaming companies..

The USERS rent them.. and they are not cheap.. with costs dwarfing what games like WOW, EVE , etc cost per month (unless you are an insane addict to those games have have to have 4 accounts-which some ppl are)

CSS has over 25,000 servers.. minimum cost for that is around 30 bucks per month...

COD4 because it is new is most likely even more expensive.. and it is only going to see more people in the next few years as hardware required to run it correctly gets cheaper and people like myself upgrade our rigs in order to play the game.

As for Crysis.. I seriously have no desire to play that game, it is pretty I am sure.. and the rig I am putting together will handle that game like a shut-in handles a pallet of fried chicken... however I am not interested in it at all ..

So the world's leading scientists are ignorant and closed minded. Is it not closed minded and ignorant to assume that all the massive changes we have made to the earth will not affect the planet?

the gaming slump is caused by developers making crappy overused titles and stories and expecting to sell a billion copies and get depressed when they don't sell a billion

they don't listen to the gamers and expect us to buy the crap they release when they don't listen to us.

if they want ideas for a game, just read the forums and they will find millions. the problem is game developers get on their high horse and think they know what we want, instead of actually listening to us

I'd say its because of the multiplayer platform that the PC is. Many people I know stick with one multiplayer game and play it for months at a time before moving on. Even years for some people.
