Crysis - the most overhyped game ever?

Oh it's definitely worth it just for the story. Graphics are to be desired if you have a super system. You don't need the best of graphic cards. I played it fine on my 8600gts everything on medium all the way upto "inside the cave" after that I had to turn everything on LOW to get playable frame rates but still looked very good imo.

I think this is correct as long as other game companies follow suit. We are starting to see higher end cards underpricing the previous higher end cards and this is a good thing. If people can't afford the hardware to play the higher end games they are just going to start switching to consoles, which have a lower hardware cost. Crysis is a bold move but hopefully it isn't a stupid one. I play it on Medium with my card and it does ok. I'd really like to see it on high with a new card so i can enjoy the nice graphics it can produce. I don't think we will see Ultra High graphics playable until this time next year. Someone needs to push the graphics market. Nvidia sat on their butts collecting on the 8800's way to long and ATI needs to play catchup. The 3800's are a GREAT midrange card, I couldn't classify them as High end in the least since their performance is under a card, GTX, that has been out a year already.

2 Hopes:
1) ATI starts giving Nvidia some competition in the highend market, they have the midrange covered already
2) The sofware (game) companies start pushing the graphics companies to come out with more powerful hardware.

In the end ALL of them need to in some way collaborate because they all need us gamers. Without the gamers they will loose a chunk of profit.

Halo 3 = most over hyped game ever.

Crysis was just anticipated because people wanted to see how well their hardware could run it. Turns out the hardware we need to run it at 60fps at the highest settings doesn't even exist yet.

Anyone who recalls Black and White would argue that it has a strong case for being overhyped more than Crysis. After delays that the developer claimed were unnecessary nit picking by the publisher on minor details, the game was finally released. All the reviews had been glowing; it was going revolutionize gaming, etc. Well, the actual game wasn't great, your creature didn't have that solid of an AI, training him was difficult, and there was a bug which made the game unplayable towards the end. Best part was that the entire development staff went on a vacation, and no patch emerged for weeks, which was well after I lost interest.

and that damn helicopter is pissin me off. why is it shooting rockets at me when i have my cloak on and im hiding in brush?
Ah, yeah... those things are a pain. The only way I've found to avoid them is to cloak and prone next to a wall until the little threat meter next to the minimap / radar goes all the way down. Then run like crazy and try to find a rocket. 😛

The missing 'poke dead bodies with stick' feature is apparently down to German censorship laws, which forbid gratuitous (spelling?) violence but however do allow fat old ladies to get their kit off and saggy breasts out to advertise chat lines on tv after about 11:00pm. Living in Germany now, I can tell you its all very, hideously true.
What? That's so lame... just release it in the other versions of the game then. I figured they would've already done this as I believe many countries have their own laws about what games can and cannot have. (I think games in Italy can't have children in them - I remember this from the game 'Fallout' and seeing a patch to "Replace the children into the game". Alright... lol)

Agreed. The whole damn game was a chase scene. Like Stupid Pierce Brosnan 007 movies.

Dang, this thread has picked up..

fish, just noticed, you're a wow player, there is nothing for you but wow and other mmo's maybe. (everyone I know that play mmo's just play mmo's and say they're bored of gaming - go figure)

No ragdolls in crysis, crytek is in germany, germany has really really strict laws on gaming, atleast the blood isnt green or black.

There seems to be a problem with requirements, anyone even look? Recommended video card is 8800GTS 640MB. The last time I played a PC game on recommended hardware on highest settings was like 2000, or whenever homeworld came out, but I couldn't get all the settings with my 8MB video card lol (light coronas or something, I can't remember, think it was directx or driver related).

Most overhyped game ever is Halo 2 by a wide margin (Xbox 360, or PC).

There was a lot of press for Half-Life 2 but I don't remember it being nearly as trumped up.

Not having played Halo 3 yet I'll reserve comment.

Halo 2 was a solid 1st player experience and a mediocre (for anyone who has played any shooter on a PC before.. ever) multiplayer one.

Half-Life 2, unlike Halo 2 delivered a quantum leap over it's predecessor.
And I'm not talking in terms of just graphics, it was a significantly better game in every way.

I can't honestly say Halo 2 was all that much better than Halo.
Both are solid, very good and should be remembered fondly as "great" games, that do not deserve their godlike status.

Crysis, while hyped in PC status, is nothing compared to either Halo 2 or Halo 3 hype. Not even close. Even if Crysis completely sucked Daikatana style, it wouldn't be as overhyped.

Showing up in a lot of game magazines is one thing, I don't remember seeing Crysis movie talks or Burger King promos.
Books, or toys.

Halo 3 was pretty crazy. It was one of the first time I saw a non-pc gaming TV station do a count down to the release of a game. (I think it was Spike TV) There was also some live action halo-like video surfacing, but I don't remember what station was broadcasting it. Well, aside from the media, just about every xbox 360 fanboi wouldn't shut up about when it was getting released. (Then they complain about the ending a week later, lol... pwned)

Overhyped or not, it pissed me off because after blazing through the game in one day in normal mode I can't watch the ED credit as the TAC cannon can't make a lock on (have tried two times but gotta go sleep now). Went read the FAQ by gamespot and unfortunately I've done nothing wrong it's just the game is buggy. Stupid bug.
Story is so so. Gameplay is excellent (a little too easy as I was playing at normal) but I like COD4 better. Graphic is of course great. On a side note the nanosuit is not as cool as the power suits in MGS, that suit has all modes on at the same time but not like you can play with it. Hope we can in MGS4.

I bought crysis thinking it would be an awsome shooter that would be very fun and improve on Far cry in every way. For the most part, I was right.

I even upgraded my video card to an 8800gt because I wanted to see the game at its best. I was not disappointed. With my C2D 6400 and 8800gt the game runs flawlessly at 1280 x 1024 with all details highest (DX9, except no anialiasing)

The graphics are indeed astonishing. I remember being in a firefight along a rocky stream when I spotted 3 dead bodies floating down the stream. Oh, the grass as the sunlight hit it, and the water floating along the perfect rocks... Bang! I was shot and killed. Forgot all about the firefight!

I have no idea how Crysis could miss the game of the year award. There is nothing else even close (IMO). Call of Duty 4 was good, but its short, intense missions left the whole thing a little too scripted in my opinion. I have not played gears of war, though. I am shocked that so many people seem to dislike crysis. The nano suit options added enough to the gameplay to give you a unique experience for a shooter. The only dissapointment is the stupid vehicles. They are impossible to drive.

I must say though, that if you don't have a graphics card that is an 8800 variant, or one of ATI's new cards, I can see why crysis would be disappointing. Before I upgraded, my 7950gt could play at medium, but it wasn't quite the same experience.

Hellgate london is indeed a piece of trash. If you play the game for 15 minutes, you have seen all there is to see. The same monsters, the same enviroments (like 4 basic environments, 3 room types per environment), and amazingly crappy skill trees make that game incredibly stale.

so you're saying that because he DIDN'T shoot the duck after he threw it up 50ft makes it more violent/gross?
And that sex (which is natural and necessary for the human race to survive) should be censored, but graphically blowing someones brains out is OK?
Wow you Americans are wierd.

I have to say that I enjoyed the beginning, but as the game continued on it didn't really pull me in (I beat it a couple of days ago). The graphics in the game are great but it wasn't enough for me. Most games I'm usually too addicted to to stop playing, but with Crysis I would play for like two hours and then be sick of it.

Well, a fat@#% old lady with saggy boobs is the equivalent of someone blowing their brains out. At least, that's what I'm getting from it.

No. I meant, shooting an oil can was OK for the demo, so they did it. Shooting the duck would have been too gross, so they didn't do it. (At least not in the video I've seen.) TBH the duck was cute, I'm glad they left it alone :)
