Crysis - the most overhyped game ever?

My only complaints are driving cars/trucks... its not exactly the most intuitive interface... its almost impossible to drive straight.

Also enemy AI could be ALOT better... if two of them are standing around, you can pop one in the head and the other doesnt even look around. Also the enemies dont go down easily.. you practically have to get headshots or spray them a couple times in the chest to kill them.

Also there is no ragdoll... so the dead enemies just sit there like rocks once theyre dead... i even had one standing/slunched over after he died (glitch?)

oh, and the rocket launcher seems like it does more damage than the tactical nuke.... which makes no sense at all.

and the stupid boats with mounted turrets seem to spot you from a mile away... and hit you!!! wtf is up with that...

Overall its a good game, but its just a preview of better games to come :)

I shot a guy twelve times. In the head (first shot), in the face (second shot), in the arms (third and fourth shots), in the groin (oh yea), and finished him in the chest.

Twelve shots, he was still standing! He was walking around and trying to shoot me! What kind of programming is that? I tell you what, they focused so much on the graffix, that they completely ignored the physics, the AI, the realism in the interfaces, etc.

OVERHYPED (successfuly in my opinion).

Hmm... maybe post processing has something to w/ ragdoll? When I kill people their body will conform into the spaces they are shot at. Ex. People will half hang out of windows or react to tables etc. when they are knocked into them.

Yeah, this is my biggest problem with this game. It's almost impossible to kill someone with a shot to the chest (unless it's a guass rifle or a rocket). Screw the nano-suit! Give me a flak-jacket, those mf'ers are invincible.

Definitely COD4 if you like previous COD games. For something different, I really like company of heros (rts) and valve's orange box. Portal is short but great and makes you think. I thought some of the puzzles were impossible at first but mess around for 10-15 minutes and you'll figure them out. TF2 has a cool look and feel to it and is just mp fun. I haven't even played hl2: episode2 yet.

I got Bioshock which is a great single player game for my xbox and since you played cod3 i assume you have one of the consoles since it wasn't released on pc. mass effect (released today) looks like a winner single player rpg on xbox. there's a special on sci-fi channel tonight at 11pm on it. bioware rarely disappoints.

i haven't played crysis demo yet but plan on downloading it this weekend when i have some time off. i obviously can't play on high with my pc but i'll check it out on med and see how it plays.

Can't agree more. For one thing CoD4 was the bestselling PC game at amazon, last time I checked. Crysis and Hellgate came after it.

Hellgate is junk indeed. As far as I'm concerned this is the most overhyped game ever.

I installed it on my XP Media Center/8800GTX/Q6600/4GB box, even switched nVidia profiles to single monitor to give it the best chance possible, and I got a blue screen after about 10 minutes. I tried again the next day, I got a crash to desktop while staring at a merchant's inventory - I hadn't even fought any monster yet that day. The PC works fine in other games, like Diablo 2. I have the latest WHQL certfied nVidia drivers (from Nov 6).

I'll let Hellgate rest on the shelf for a year, then get the latest patch and maybe try it on Vista.

Oh and by the way, I spent $10 more to get the Collector's Edition, it was supposed to give me a pet monster (mantawraith) to help. I never figured out how to get that thing to show up, and there's no help or mention of it in the manual.

Also, the controls are idiotic. Why do I need to move the mouse until I look in the right direction, then press W and keep it pressed to move? In Diablo this could be done with one hand, one action, no keyboard, just click the mouse in the right direction and keep it down. It's clumsy and very annoying.

And the quests are like "go kill 10 zombies, bring back 10 capacitors". You kill a zombie, a capacitor falls. No random stuff, no imagination. The NPC's have this extremely weird habit of saying one thing and showing another as text - it's like watching TV with closed captioning on but the text is totally unrelated to the sounds.

I'm so disappointed... :fou: Do you guys think Crysis can possibly be worse??? I haven't tried that one yet...

No, Crysis actually works out of the box. lol. If you want to get about how broken HG:L was, I'll tell you this little story - There was a game breaking bug. One which prevented you from advancing at all (and just about every person received this error). So naturally there was a 16+ page post on their forums complaining about it, and instead of hotfixing it... they made everyone wait an entire week (for a full patch) just to add a simple teleporter and fix the problem... lame.

I'm with you on this one:

******HG:L SPOILER********

I don't know if you played a BM or not in HG:L, but I got to the last level (where I stopped playing it) and had to fight the 5 lies... one of them was a flying eye thing that wouldn't come down close enough for me to hit it. It just kept spawning little guys for 10+ mins. This was the point where I got so mad at the game, I just shut it down and haven't touched it since.

graphics are really good, but the enemies and the realism piss me off. The koreans say the same 3-4 lines over and over and sound just retarded saying them. Also the 30 shots to kill one guy, the annoying helicopter, and the uncanny accuracy of turrets/tanks to spot you across 2 miles are other bugs that make hit game a 7/10 instead of a 9/10.

Crysis is awesome. I will agree with the high requirements (and the price you have to pay to play that game for its next-gen graphics). Nevertheless, I love how they revolutionized the graphics in that game. They look great!

If you wanted to play this game for its graphics then here's my recommendation.

Regular 17" monitor - don't play the game unless you have a 8800GTS Nvidia (or ATI 2900)

Widescreen 20.1" or 22" monitor - don't play the game unless you have at least a 8800GT or 8800GTX Nvidia chipset.

If you have older graphics card you can still enjoy the game but won't enjoy the graphics options at its real potential...or at least what it was "hyped" for.

I find the gameplay just fine. Watch out for the patch coming up in the next week or so if you're that picky about certain bugs in the game.

Alex

I'll second that. Bought it, completed it, uninstalled it, sold it, cursed the day I bought it. Without anybody saying 'mods', where is the replay value exactly??

Anyway, those who thought crysis was badly overhyped are generally those with high end graphics cards who find they cant, for once, put all the option sliders to maximum and are annoyed about it, or those who played farcry and didnt like it all that much.

Filter out these, and you'll probably have alot of crysis fans, although ones both daunted and impressed by the graphics.

yes, but once theyre dead you cant play with them anymore! theyre like rocks, their bodies dont react to anything...

and that damn helicopter is pissin me off. why is it shooting rockets at me when i have my cloak on and im hiding in brush?

The missing 'poke dead bodies with stick' feature is apparently down to German censorship laws, which forbid gratuitous (spelling?) violence but however do allow fat old ladies to get their kit off and saggy breasts out to advertise chat lines on tv after about 11:00pm. Living in Germany now, I can tell you its all very, hideously true.

  Yup, I spent a week in Germany some time ago and noticed that too. It's cool, at first, but it gets old fast.

Anyway, I saw this video somewhere where they showed a guy playing Crysis. He was throwing this big oil container like 50 metres up and then shooting it. Then he threw a duck, but this time he didn't shoot. I'm sure he could have, but that was too gross, I guess :na:

I admit that the hype for CRYSIS was a little overdone, but what good game doesn't?Sure there are bugs in CRYSIS that need to be addressed, probably will get a patch or two to fix most of the issues. But hey, look at FARCRY.It was a very hyped up game before release, and wouldn't you know,it had quite a few issues of its own when it was first released. The biggest one I came across with FARCRY was its lack of full support for the NVIDIA 6-series cards and up.UBISOFT was obliged to correct the problem and so it released several patches that not only addressed this issue, but several others as well.So hey everyone, give it a month or so and I think we'll see the fixes that are required, come out. It's just a matter of time. They(EA GAMES),need to wait for customer feed back as related to issues. They'll look at those issues and address them as needed.A game is after all, just a piece of software, and like most software,it needs to tested.Unfortunately, games don't actually have release candidates like an OPERATING SYSTEM.And even though they are tested vigurously in house, there are still going to be issues found that the testers have missed or not come across. And well hey, look at it this way.VISTA had several RCs,and yet at the time of its release, there were all kinds of issues that MICROSOFT has been forced to address.Hence service pack 1 for VISTA due out in the first quarter of 2008.Game away good people.

Pretty fun game, i was really suprised, i usually end up shrugging off most games after i play the beta, even after i was kinda excited about them to be released.
With Crysis, i didn't pay much attention, and didn't play the beta, i pretty much was going to buy it no matter what, if not just to test out
my new hardware with it.
Plays great, looks FANTASTIC!, and i'm running it in DX9 on XP, i've been having a blast with this game, far exceeded my expectations.
Glad i didn't fall for the Vista DX10 hype, a friend got all geared up with Vista and SLI, Quad core ect... his PC can't do any better than my single card, dual core, XP puter :)

Well, I sure hope you're right. Maybe with 100,000 beta testers they'll fix both Crysis and Hellgate soon. Come to think of it Diablo 2 had 10 patches too.

Mind if I hijack the thread a bit? Those Z-5500s are on sale at my local FutureShop, C$300. Are they worth it? I have an X-Fi XtremeMusic and I'm thinking it's wasted with only 2+1 speakers...

For gaming and movies they are awesome. That's exactly what I paid for mine as well.Good price and lots of sound to piss off your neibours.LOL.Yes they are a great buy.Not the best certainly, but a very good buy none the less. Those same speakers sold here in CANADA for 499.00 originaly. But as happens with everything else, once it's out for awhile, the prices drop to help keep sales up.And yes, your X-FI is wasted on 2.1 speakers.Goodluck.

well i think that this is the best game that i have ever played

i have played all call of duty games and i dont think that they even compare to Crysis.

This game was underhyped in my opinion
i actually think that this game is too good
i cant even play any other games because they dont compare
i used to play unreal tournament 2004 all the time but now i cant even go back to it because it isnt as fun.
it doesnt make much sense to me why i cant play my previously loved games. (i just cant) i get bored of them
it kind of sucks

but once again i think Crysis is the best game i have ever played
it incorporates so many new things that i have never been exposed to.
(destructible environment, customizable guns at any point in game, unfreakingbelievable graphics (been exposed to that, though) , and the best multiplayer i have ever played.)

Hello all,all I have to say is I sure hope UT3 isnt a flop.It will have to be damn good to even come close to be as good as UT2004.I still love playing that game online.Yes Im a UT fan. :pt1cable:

iam using dual core 2.8, 1600 pro agp + 1 giga ram & does CoD 4 & Crysis (custom mix = medium & low setting) fine, i enjoyed both game, over hyped games are such = hellgate (doh!), empire earth 3, simcity socialites.

and the sad truths :pfff: are magazines & net (E-sites) tend to encouraging the "Fail" and told us that the game is fine, got new features, bla-bla-bla "lolipop suckers" :ange: , while dont give any positive / negative input to the game's developer that the game is about to fail the us the costumer :non:

btw :sarcastic: crysis & cod 4 makes me play FPS, iam usually hate such game, because => heroes does exist, but most of them died in the battlefield.

Considering the length of time it's been hyped, and how much PC gamers have been subtly (and not so subtly) "encouraged" to upgrade their hardware to play this game - I would have to agree.

Not having played it myself I can't say yet whether it's actually worth the hype.
