Its not a problem that needs a solution, just curiosity.

I have two monitors. A Dell G2724D and a very old LG 22M35.

The first is connected through DP, the other only has VGA so I use a VGA to DP adapter.
Now what i find curious is that when I turn on the PC, by default it uses the old LG (for bios, Windows loading screen etc) and only after Windows loads does it switch to the Dell as the primary.

I don't really care to change anything i'm just curious if anyone can explain how and why the PC chooses which one to use until Windows takes over.

Likely the PC is just looking for "a monitor" for initial bootup and starts by looking for the simplest working connection (VGA) it can find. Finds VGA and proceeds accordingly.

After boot up and once Windows takes over, the OS switches to the Dell.

You may be able to change the boot monitor if BIOS offers such options.

I was thinking that its either this or the slot of the GPU they are connected on and the later wasn't the case as i could test it. Though i find it strange since an older GPU i had didn't send a signal to that LG monitor (using the same adapter) until windows started despite it being the only monitor i had at the time.
Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Some cards have some sort of priority list to check for connections. And then display on the first connected port in that list.
I have one setup where my primary monitor is #2 because my secondary monitor is on the port that the card goes through first.

I would assume the LG is connected to a port higher in the priority list, so during start the machine finds that monitor first, and puts out stuff like the BIOS screen there. As soon as Windows starts and loads the graphics driver, it goes back to whatever layout and setup is set.

Since you said one is directly connected through DP and the other through a VGA-to-DP adapter, try switching them around on the graphics card side.
