[SOLVED] Curious question about swapping AM4 motherboards

Hi I am planning on getting the Asus Prime B450M-A/CSM to swap out the motherboard i am using which is the Asus Prime A320M-K for multiple reasons and my only concern is would i need to reformat my drive for the new board or could i just swap everything out and just start playing again like nothing never happened and thanks in advance if you can answer this for me

As similar as those two boards are, you'll probably get lucky, and W10 will recognize the board change and download the correct drivers for the different on-board devices as needed when you boot up for the first time. Or if not, (after you've booted up), via Win Update. After that, you can install the latest drivers from the board's website if you prefer.

But keep in mind that the Win 10 license you are using may require a new activation to get full W10 functionality back.

After that, you may or may not have to do a full reinstall.

Thanks and also i am using a retail key as well so i have nothing to worry about for that just wanted to make sure because my new case has a front LED strip which i would like to use and also the fact that i can have later in life 24/32 gb of memory instead (depending on the cost in the future) and the fact that i can overclock my processor so it would be even more future proofed when needed.

I have a curious question for you clutchc is i have 2400MHz memory right now which i am planning on overclocking to 2800MHz so i am curious if i bough 2 more memory sticks for that motherboard do i just buy 2400MHz memory and overclock that or would buying 2800MHz memory be alright as well?

Best to match the pairs as close as possible, especially with Ryzen. The 2nd gen Ryzen CPUs and boards are better and the AGESA memory codes have been updated many times, but I'd still go with a pair of matched pairs. Especially for OC'ing.

There's never any guarantees, but I would expect those two pairs to play nice together at stock speeds.

The more memory our gfx cards come with and use, the larger the buffer that needs to be set aside in system memory if we max the eye candy. Also, the more more players on a busy server, the more system memory needs to be set aside. It's not so much that the games themselves need the extra memory.
And of course, if you are the type that likes to have other apps open while you game, they will require memory as well. Browsers with lots of tabs open are real hogs.

Well i do stream from time to time as well and i do tend to keep a bunch of tabs open as well even when gaming so i just like having a little more than what is recommended now a days cause back then when the recommended memory was 8gb i made sure i had 12gb as a just in case.

Yeah, sounds like 8GB would be too little for you. You'd be constantly swapping data in and out of virtual memory. 16GB minimum.
